Flesh Rippers upgrades

By Budgernaut, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I finally got my hands on a Flesh Rippers Unit Expansion and got to run a list with Dead Sprint. That upgrade is amazing!

I also added Moment of Inspiration because I had the points to spend on it. I really like Moment of Inspiration on Flesh Rippers. I tried Dead Sprint and Moment of Inspiration on a 2x2 and a 3x2. I think I actually preferred the 3x2's hitting capability, but Moment of Inspiration actually seemed to help out both. The white die has a decent amount of surges for the 2x2 (where I usually choose a blue die for flanks) and is pretty good at getting hits for my 3x2 (which usually takes a red die for flanking). Does that logic make sense? Is it better to roll red with the 2x2?

I was worried that I would never get a chance to ready Moment of Inspiration because the rally is green, but after the Flesh Rippers defeat an enemy, they usually need to reform, so I can rally with a bonus reform action to alter the facing without losing a turn because I need to spend a turn reforming anyway.

What other upgrades do you like on Flesh Rippers?

EDIT: I could have sworn I posted this to the list building subforum. ?

I've been tempted to try MoI on them. Just haven't had a chance to yet.

With Dead Sprint, you can rally on the first turn knowing that you'll be advancing at least some distance. That might actually get you a better feel for how the battle will unfold, as well.

I'll not tried MoI on Flesh Rippers yet, or really any of the bigger stacks of them. Whether you choose red or blue on a 2x2 might matter more for the target you're fighting. If you're still at 2 trays in your front, then a hit is still worth 2 damage and the surge 1, and best against 1/1 infantry. So that is to say that if you've also got ranks for rerolls, you're probably still getting more mileage out of the hits, even on the 2x1 tray, and you're more consistently going to get them on that red die. Adding a white die gets you not only the benefits of a good hit/surge mix, but also all of the other double die faces. It is an Uthuk list after all, so maybe the morale symbol stacks with a token or dial to produce a great result.

I’ve played all sizes of Ripper formations. At the moment, MoI seems the standout winner. I don’t see that changing until Uthuk get an Uthuk only training. I know a lot of players like Rank Discipline, but it doesn’t seem to be worth it to me.

Their champion slot also seems kind of meh. Kethra isn’t very good on them, so it seems like File Leader is their “best” bet.

They really seem seem to be waiting on something to show up for their bigger formations.

Personally I run two 2 x 2 Flesh Rippers, both only with Dead Sprint and they are the clear winners for me. People spend so much time tangling with Ravos and my 2 x 1 Scuttling Spined Threshers that they get flanked and hounded by the Flesh Rippers.

I found keeping them cheap, cheerful and small to be the most effective option for me until, as Church said, Uthuk get something that really wants you to go big on formations.
