FFG's "In Flight Report" info about IA

By thereisnotry, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Well, we know that DT gets to design another card since he won Worlds, so we can AT THE VERY LEAST expect 1 more wave of stuff. I mean cmon guys, Yoda isn't even in the game yet (they spread out the big hitters to generate hype as a marketing strategy)!

But more importantly, EWOKS have yet to arrive ?

This game has A LOT of plastic right now. Really, they should focus on the app and get the app to cover all the plastic and cardboard out right now. I can see them doing yet another expansion after the Rebels one ... after they are caught up on the app side.

That's all perfectly true from a campaign point of view, but it doesn't really work that way for skirmish. It's new releases that keep the meta fresh and that keep up people's interest in the game, both of which translate to larger numbers at tournaments. And that's not even mentioning the fact that 75% of that plastic that was released before Jabba's realm is borderline unplayable in a competitive setting. And yes, I fully acknowledge that not everybody plays skirmish and that not all skirmish players care about being competitive, but it's the people who do like the organized play scene (and would love to see it grow) that are the most bummed out by the lack of news about this fantastic game.

On the subject of apps, though, I think that they could easily get by for quite a while without a new expansion if they were to release something like the X-Wing 2.0 app for IA skirmish. Being able to tweak the costs of older figures and upgrades would be amazing, not only shaking up the meta but also letting people dust off some of their favourite characters who have been sadly been collecting dust in the bottom of old campaign boxes.

Don't worry guys... I don't have JR yet (just Core, Hoth, and 8ish blisters, BUT, as soon as the app for JR comes out I will buy the JR expansion. Then they will be sure to see the sale and start working on more stuff! I'm saving up, and I'll take one for the team. I want to get ToL too so that should really help FFG see some sense and make tons of new plastic for us all!

Seriously though, now I feel bad for posting something on the Skirmish board entitled "If IA ever dies" or whatever I called it. I meant IF (wasn't even trying to be negative) and wanted to share a cool article and story about a Star Wars game kept alive by fans for 20+ years after it was cancelled! Let's spend less time worrying about IA (I'm not) and more time posting articles about how Legion will probably die soon and how FFG doesn't seem to care about it anymore or whatever on the Legion boards! Can't we call just get along and hate Legion together? Like in the NBA, it's (obviously) important to have a team you love (for me, the Thunder) but it's almost as important to have a team you hate (for me the Warriors) and it really brings people together to hate something the same! Do it for the community. :) Let's spend our energy like good Bothan spies, sabotaging the evil empire of Legion.

I will personally start trolling anyone who wants to come on the IA boards talking about Legion. There are lots of places to talk about it. This belongs to me and my IA brothers and sisters. IA is great. New stuff (which looks great!) is coming!

Maybe I wasn't clear there either. I meant let's go bother Legion players on THEIR boards and keep talking about how Legion will probably die soon or whatever. It was a joke. I too am one of your "IA brothers".

I'm also really looking fwd to the new IA stuff. I really love playing both campaign and skirmish but don't get to play near as much as I'd like since I live in China, so I probably check these IA boards a little too much... I guess there is always vassal...

I don't think you're doing the IA community any favours by turning "membership" in any community as being partisan. You're just signalling to outsiders that we're a bunch of "my punk rock's better than your punk rock" jerks.

Given what's been announced for Legion at this point, especially with regards to Clone Wars content coming, I don't think that game's going away any time soon.

Historically, IA doesn't generally get announcements for new waves ahead of the release of the current "in the pipe" wave, so don't take a lack of news as some kind of doom and gloom thing. While communication with players with more teases of upcoming releases would stoke the fires, I think constantly speculating on how dead this game is at any given moment probably drives more people away than it attracts. Nobody wants to come and make friends with a bunch fo Debbie Downers.

Agreed. Tribalism is stupid. There is room for both IA & Legion speak here :)

What? Does it really sound like I am being serious about annoying people on Legion boards? What part of:

is unclear? I haven't even read any Legion boards let alone bothered anybody who likes Legion. People can like Legion. People can like IA. People can like both. Whatever. I'm not a "punk rock jerk" (although I like a lot of punk) or a "stupid Tribalist". Geez. Relax. I like IA and wanted to post with some other people who like IA. Maybe my tone wasn't clear (but I don't really see how you could think my post was serious).

Obviously. Lots and lots of Legion news. Great. I'm happy for Legion players and obviously it's not going to die soon. That was part of the joke. It's getting way more news than IA (which is also not going to die anytime soon).

Personally, I reacted to your post before the "joke" one, which didn't seem like a joke to me, but rather a championing of loving to hate. But yeah, it was probably an over reaction. (That said, you're not the only one who have offered this kind of "hate speech" here, and I might have let some frustration over other posts inform my critique of yours).

I understood the intend of your post as a joke ... probably because English is not my first language ?

As a massive BloodBowl fan I’d regard being a “dead” game as a load of nonsense. There is total proof that not being supported gives an opportunity for the community to tweak things that need tweaking and when 3rd party companies start making nicer minis the main company can come back in and give it a huge boost again.

stay positive and think that the community is fantastic and no reason that can’t continue.

This game is dead because at official competitions people who checks lists can't count, so it happens final table has a list at 41. World Championship has commenters of streaming video that are terrible, not even an experienced players can get what the heck is going on and I guess people approaching the game for the first time aren't encouraged by that. Launch day of the latest and greatest expansion is 1 month after an event like GenCon, so why don't present full package at the event?! Game is dead because people behind it has dead neurones.

Eh, all games have their issues at tournaments. Last year, there was the infamous "sleight of hand" with X-Wing, maybe one of the biggest scandals in recent memory. Surely you wouldn't say X-Wing is dead, would you?

They did have IA on display, IIRC. Granted, it was down at the bottom of the display case I think but it was there.

They actually needed v2.0 just to revive things a bit...

They're getting 2.0, and I'm sure it'll be big for them, but I hesitate to say they "needed" it...

@subtrendy2

I'd say the sleight of hand cheat from X-Wing you're referring to, with Parker Guidry at Worlds 2017 is a different situation. There it was a blatant cheat, and they let him carry on after, and didn't even adjust the record for him and his opponent. Sure, you would go back and play the following round over again, but they could still have adjusted their tournament points so the round after that one would be more reflective, and he'd be out for the rest of the day.

In the case of our situation over in IA land, there are enough reasonable scenarios where this could have not been a deliberate cheat, so I'm not for shaming the person that played to the end per se, but I think for a Premier event, someone should be taking the time to audit each list and confirm unit costs are listed correctly, faction requirements are observed, points add up, etc.

99% of the lists will be fine but it catches moments like this, where the player can then opt to pull a 1pt card like Devious/Black Market, or swap the eJawa down to the regular if someone has the card handy.

It's a bummer if you made an honest mistake in your accounting, but I think the hard lesson is a good teacher for getting organized for your next event.

As for X-Wing needing a 2.0, I'd say I'd disagree and that it needed it desperately to realign the ship pool so that you could get more players being able to do well with ships they like, rather than doing well with ships that were creeped up to be over the curve. The digital patching of costs and upgrade slots will go a long way to maintain this. It's only really a negative if you're so exceedingly bought into 1.0 and don't want to pony up on doubles of conversion kits and a new Core.

A certain forum poster saw that the Emperor's New Clothes were in fact non-existent a couple of years ago in that game, and liquidated last summer before any of this 2.0 business was known to the public. At worst it was a break even sale, with promo cards attached to make up the difference, so starting over at zero inventory is actually quite nice when you can grab fire-sale priced ships and a couple of conversion kits to have to only store the ships you actually want to fly, rather than tons of dead weight.

Correct. I had to search pretty hard to find it. However, there was no IA product in the FFG booth, none. Maybe that's due to the same restrictions that prevent them from selling it on their own website?

I got into IA (campaign) at last year's gencon, played a demo in the ffg space and bought the core at the Cool Stuff Inc booth. This year, IA wasn't available in the demo space, and I couldn't find ANY vendor with IA product.

I'm not a sky-is-falling type, but it was disappointing.
