So since they've announced prequel factions for X-Wing and Legion (was at Gen Con, articles aren't up yet), how long before we get them for IA? Who's excited to run drodikas?!

Probably not. I'd imagine at least Armada would come up ahead of us, since implementation would be as easy as X-Wing or Legion (and apparently they've hinted at considering it already).
But after that?

What more is there for GCW? Plenty locations (though most of them can be from any era) but not that many characters left are there?
I think LucasFilms' latest revitalization of the Clone Wars media obviously had a huge influence on the other games. X-Wing was already grabbing at straws for new ships and content to release before 2.0. Makes sense they'd get it. Legion makes way more sense as a Clone Wars themed game anyways.
IA is still has Endor, Rogue One, and even Solo ahead of any prequel content for future wave inspiration imo. I'd still personally love to see FFG delve into figures inspired by Expanded Universe characters like Mara Jade, Kyle Katarn, Dash Rendar, etc. I know that's not likely cause LucasFilm killed and buried the EU, but it'd be cool. I'm not saying FFG couldn't go prequels now, but there's still more content to be explored in the GCW and I hope they stay in that era.
Also, FFG should reboot the game with a new Core if they change eras. It wouldn't really be "Imperial" Assault with a bunch of B1 battle droids and droidekas fighting Jedi and clones on Geonosis. Not gonna lie though, a Republic Commando inspired game following an elite clone trooper squad like Delta Squad would be sick.

Well, Darth Vader (technically), Maul, Palpatine... I guess you could add the Inquisitor to the mix? And all the Lothal stuff (incl. Hera & Co) if you count

as prequel era? Jabba, or course... Boba Fett (sort of, but not really)... IG-88 (how old is he?)? Tusken Raiders & the bantha, for sure. Obi Wan (if you accept he got old in a hurry)... R2-D2 & C3P0... Wookie Warriors...
And Greedo (well, he was a kid in TPM)... Jawas... Hired Scum (there are a few Rodians around)...

TBH, almost any of the merc stuff would work in prequels.

Yes Republic Commando versjknwould rock! I had held off on buying Imperial Assault but this could be what pushes me into it.

Ah, Endor, that's a point - we need Ewoks before we get Droidekers I suppose. I'd rather have the latter first, but I can see FFG and perhaps most fans thinking otherwise. Dunno what Rogue One or Solo would add though - we're not crying out for another kind of Storm Trooper really.
I don't think the name matters. After all, it's hardly "X-Wing" with a bunch of Jedi Starfighters fighting buzz droids.

From a skirmish point of view clone wars era makes total sense. Campaign wise I honestly don't know. Who would the "rebel" players? Separatists? Republic?
One way to introduce some more clone wars elements could be through a box expansion where the campaign scenario revolve around rebels trying to rescue a surviving Jedi from the old republic trapped on a planet infested with still active battle droids ... only to find out there is no jedi. Just a trap set up by the Empire to lure the rebels on that planet full of droidekas and other clone wars relicas (because we don't need another jedi, do we?) This would also be an opportunity to introduce Rex as the rebel ally.

They could have campaigns both ways round - CIS infiltrating the Republic, Republic infiltrating CIS. I think it'd be cool to have some Empire based campaigns too

If this were to happen, I'd imagine gameplay would change significantly. Maybe even to the point that it would become a two-player campaign, something more like Armada's Corellian Conflict than the Imperial Assault campaign.
Each side building and upgrading armies, while recruiting heroes, could be fun.

Edited by Spidey NZFFG has not been keen on the prequel stuff. The only logical conclusion: Clone Wars (sort of prequel) content coming for X-wing and Legion is the sole reason that Mr. Petersen quit as a CEO.

Seems too soon for Clone Wars era to come to Imperial assault. We haven't gotten anything from Rogue One, Solo or episodes 7 & 8 yet.
I want Knights of the Old Republic before the Clone Wars...
