I have an SSD already too, and look forward to buying the second so I can play with BOTH at the same time.

Plus. double arcing something the size of the table is pretty easy, making it more like 48 Dice. Just saying when you start comparing dollars to dice pools it's a little over priced.
I already have 4 Star Destroyers, and I can tell you that they won't all fit into a 400 point game.
Fresh off the 3d printer.

This sounds like EA's sale's pitch...what was it? Pride and Accomplishment of buying loot boxes?

Unlike EA, we're buying a physical product with actual costs to produce and a value to its players that physically cannot be included with the original product (the core set) or distributed free (bulk shipping from China is cheap but not that cheap).
If premium post-launch expansions are an issue for you, you'll have to start with a multitude of companies before even considering FFG. And FFG is downright benevolent by comparison to many of their competitors (side-eye to GW).

The thing I dont understand is this isnt really that much different then a epic X-Wing model, yet its priced point is like twice as much, its twice as much as the core set, and this sets a slippery slope towards GW style price points, or even just as bad, FORGE WORLD price points.

If it’s rough size of 30” is true, then it’s almost double the 15”-17” Raider/Corvette For XWing Epic.
Double the Size, Double the Cost!
... and pride, and fall.... Geeze Dooku, affirmation much...

I wouldn't think it would get that bad with an SSD (given there's just one arc you're dodging), but it still probably helps to have a heavier ship in there (like a Glad, at least) to twist the knife once the defense tokens start getting overheated.
With a double brace, double redirect, and double contain, it seems like single big sledgehammer attacks from a beefed-out large ship aren't going to be as effective as they would be otherwise, as locking down enough meaningful defense tokens will be tough. Overheating defense tokens is much easier with a swarm of smaller ships and/or squads.

You also have to consider the level of detail and complexity of the mold. From some of the HD pictures we've seen so far, this is a QUALITY model. That much detail means the mold for the injection kit had to be just as precise, molds that size can be VERY expensive too.

Now I'm purely speculating here but it seems reasonable to me that they would anticipate lower sales for the Armada SSD than they would for say the X-Wing CR-90. So not only did they make a more expensive mold but they made it for a smaller niche market. Therefore the model itself should be more expensive in order to be profitable enough to motivate FFG to produce it. Seems like pretty basic economics to me.
For all those moaning about the cost.... look at the cost of a 1500 point GW Sisters of Battle Army....
$200 ...which is about £150... or 3 units of 10.... thats about 300 points!.... if fact good luck putting together a 1000 point army at under £500 or $7-800.... yet people do!
