You going to get into Legion now?

I was planning on it, although limited funds may hinder me... Especially since a recent 200$ predicted increase in my Expenses.

I will at least figure out how to play it and give it some solid test runs, maybe on vassal? Then will see how much I want to sacrifice to the FFG gods

There is no vassal mod. And Green Knight gave that up a while ago. It's run by JJs. There is a mod on Table Top Simulator, but the base software is $20 I think.

Legion is fun but it's nothing like Armada. Armada has constraints which make it strategic, whereas Legion gives nerf guns to a group of 10 year olds and tells them to make up the rules as they go.

Clone wars, no ewoks, no tauntauns/dewbacks, wookies with physiologically improbable backhand swords.... I'll save a ton of money this year.

I like the idea of the operatives but have no idea how to visually incorporate them into my armies as of yet so who knows.

Clone Wars will probably keep me from playing at stores though. I'd rather play a non-Star Wars game with my historical/fantasy friends, than play an opponent with a prequel army...

Really? Why? Yes they were a pile of trash but they add a lot of stuff for the games. Also, unless you also hate clone wars too, most of the stuff will probably be from clone wars.

This I do not understand. There’s nothing wrong with the prequel army concepts. Honestly, there’s way more content for ground combat in that era than any other of Star Wars.

If they’re having a good time, what’s it to you? We already have mirror match ups breaking the illusion this is “correct” anyway.

I may not buy in right away, but my concerns are financial not concept execution.

Uninformed speculation time:

Republic - very elite. Lots of jedi characters obviously with power is greater than luke. Clone troopers generally better than stormies?

Seperatists - imperial guard - heaps of low quality droids. Make up for it with lots of guns on tanks of various kinds and droidekas

Stuff with a background I dislike and visuals I find non-compelling equals zero new additions to my game.

But instead of being my usual negative self, I will say am more excited about the officers and Chewie than I am annoyed about Clone Wars.

But it does seem like my painting will slow significantly as there is going to be a real cap on new releases that I find interesting. Which will let me focus on painting for other games. Also since Hoth rebels troops and ewoks are presumably kicked to far future I guess there's nothing holding me back on

1) Painting 6 squads of troopers in Hoth colors

2) not bothering to earmark a squad or troopers for later use in Endor colors

My concerns are the opposite. I'm the kind of guy that if I really want to play a new game, I'll sell blood if I have to. But if I find a totally mathematically kick@$$ unit to look weird, it'll never appear in my army.

I don't play mirror matchups. I have 800 painted points of both factions and let my opponent decide if they want to be imperial or rebel and I play the opposite. If I played in a tournament (unlikely) I'd do an 800 point personalized army of rebel models painted up as a mercenary company with it's own colors, or, I'd paint up 800 points of imperials in non-regulation colors and have the personal army of a rogue moff in aftermath of Endor. In other words, I'd create my own faction that had a background reason to fight anyone.

But who am I kidding: if anything gets the local group to jump into Legion with both feet it'll probably be prequel armies and I'll be forced to eat my words.

Intend toward similar sentiments. Not a fan of mirror and try to have a reason for the battle. Same with strong units that I don't like the aesthetics of.

A number of friends are excited about Clone troopers and CIS though, so if it gets them playing, I am happy. The problem for me is that they are different time periods and therefore I find it strange to think of rebels fighting CIS. Hence, I will likely buy into all 4 just to avoid mirrors and out of time period battles.

Dear FFG

Please take all my money, leave me on the streets begging for scraps outside Burger King.

Please release everything, CW, Specialists, Chewie tomorrow.

Thank you

Vayasen

My dream of annoying opponents by saying “roger roger” every time I activate a unit of battle droids is going to be a reality!

Me too.

There are plenty of examples of various battle droids being around and active during the GCW. There was actually an episode of Rebels that had that exact situation play out. What will be strange is having Jedi fighting the Rebels.

To comment on earlier statements specialists wouldn't be until 2019, this was taken from their booth...

So this would make sense though. Papa Palps was the first to be announced as Q4, call that October. Now you got the Wook Squad and the Specialists as the next annoucement named as Q4 as well, call that November/December.

So ASSUMING they follow the 1 set a month rule...That's your 2018 there. Im betting money that Sep's/Clones wont be until Q3 2019, leaving 6 months to fill out other "expanded" units for the Galactic Civil War, (Rogue One units, etc)

I think missing the hype train from the new Clone Wars TV show would be too big a marketing screwup. I bet CW content for both Legion and X-Wing will come hot on the heels of the show. Maybe even with starter sets at Target the way X-Wing did for Force Awakens.

Hence my eventual plan to make a truly generic army. Drake's Irregulars. A bunch of blaster waving rebel models, containing no Jedi, painted in non-canon colors. They could be rebels. Or pirates. Or mercenaries. Or whatever.

I may end up with just two armies. Imperial because they are what I want the most and then something like what you say, irregulars.

Yeah I can't stand mirror matchups. Am kinda icked by cross period matchups, but somehow it's less offensive...

Given that Rebels has shown Clankers fighting Imperials alongside Rebels, I wonder if there will be rules to 'borrow' units from other factions. Rebels with old reactivated Droids. Imperials with still loyal Clones.

Yeah. The concept is coming together in my head but I'll await new releases before I try and do anything with it. I might strip my Endor troopers and use them for color tests though.

Tabletop Admiral updated as best I could read.

Honestly I am most excited for the inclusion of the Original Trilogy droids and the Death Star Trooper packaged in the Imperial Expansion. Hopefully we will see more companion droids and the like in this game. Fingers crossed for C-3PO & R2-D2. I got a fever and the only cure is more (original trilogy) droids!

Is it just me or does the Specialist for the rebels Box Art as well as paint job look just like Gideon Argus from Imperial Assault. This gives weight to the argument in another thread that the Rebel Commando Mon Calamari is possibly Loku Kanuloa or at least modeled after him.

On another note I am not super excited for the Clone Wars but will gladly buy them if for nothing else than to paint up an 800 point faction for both sides. It would make sense to bring in the "Generic Commanders or Specialists" into the Clone Wars era as seen in the show and in the Battlefront 2 game that Officers were just higher ranked Clones. To be completely honest anything Star Wars is welcome as far as I am concerned.

No, it is not just you, the Box Art (and paint job) as well as the sculpt design is pretty clearly Gideon. Of course, people painting their officer differently can change that.

Clone Wars should be an interesting addition (I know some of my sons will be excited by that). I just can help but wonder if the Clone Wars factions could have a bit of an advantage over GCW era factions, as the Clone Wars factions can have greater access to Force users (particularly the Galactic Republic with all those Jedi).

I gotta have more droids!

I really hope we see these two new factions released in their own base set instead of sold piecemeal. Granted, the good business choice would be to sell them at individual little sets but that could get expensive fast!
