The same could be already said about ST. Technology is not going that fast in SW

TPM was release when I was 14. So although my younger years were spent watching the OT on VHS, from a cinematic point of view the Prequels were what I grew up with as a kid.

Now, at the time I loved them. In my thirties they wind me up. But I do like a lot of the designs.

This is great news. Now everyone is catered for. If you're stuck on purely OT ships then tough ****.

I was trying to figure out what second faction I'd plump for after Imperials, and now I know it will be their predecessors, the Republic!

I’m expecting a side industry of people selling custom painted Jedi starfighters given how many were custom painted in universe...

So, how are they going to release the initial wave?

A) ‘Core Set’ + boosters

B) ‘Most Wanted’ style boxes with 2-3 ships, and boosters

C) Just the individual packs

C) is very unlikely. Core set is possible, but I think Most Wanted - there should be a way to convert ARC and Sheathipede, maybe Scurrg or Firespray, and whatever comes between Wave 2 and Clone Wars - for example they could add a Rogue-class starfighter to Scum and N-1 to Rebels, and then make a "starter set" converting two-three ships each.

I’m not expecting a new ‘core’ this close to the current core. My bet is the 2-3 ship ‘starter’ boxes.

Yea it does. Star Wars canon tech is completely stagnant. The firepower of any ship in Star Wars is just about what the buyer thought they needed.

Having not read all 6 pages; here's my 2 pence. I play X-Wing for fun. If other people are buying these ships and playing for fun then that means I have more opportunities to play for fun. All I care about is playing spaceships and enjoying it; I couldn't care less which source material or fictional space wizard era your ships are from.

My only downside in all of this is that I'm actually going to have to make purchasing decisions as there is no way in **** I can even afford to convert all my existing ships straight away. Now I need to pick a faction to focus on and prioritize.

It's not going to be out until next year. I would put money on it being a new core set.

I saw prequel as a kid and I loved them. Back then I wanted space battles, flashy lightsaber duels and the prequels delivered. I still enjoy them as 'easy' movies. Many years later I watched the Clone Wars series and I loved it too.

To this day I like the Prequel era significantly more than the Sequel era, so this announcement makes me very glad, for both X-wing and Legion.

You see an Alliance that has an increasing level of resources. And in the new canon the New Republic is demilitarizing, so there’s not going to be much new tech there beyond their ability to afford bigger and better stuff.

We do? X-Wings still seem to be their go-to craft. We see them using some other ships (which we know from canon sources they had before Yavin anyway), but those were specialised, not necessarily more advanced.

It just doesn't make sense for the tech in that galaxy still to be advancing at a significant rate. They had had hyperspace travel and lightsabers and blasters for thousands of years; if they were progressing at a rate that would be noticeable within a few decades then they'd have sublimed by now.

I would kinda like to see them decide Windu's not dead. Maybe give him a spinoff where he's in hiding, or have him show up in Resistance, all enigmatically, not revealing where he's been.
