New SSD Photos & Info

Bottom row, left to right:

1. one card completely hidden: NO IDEA (could look through my old SWCCG card sand maybe find some Executor officer candidates - or maybe we get both Ozzel and Piett as officers, so this is one or the other?)

2. a woman looking at a holo-something, Unique, Officer, Name partly visible, Lira maybe?: LIRA WESSEX

3. white uniform, looks like Krennic, no? Unique, Officer, Name partly visible, confirms Krennic?: DIRECTOR KRENNIC

4. looks like Piett to me, so maybe an Officer Piett? Unique, Officer, Name only says Admiral, so not sure. ADMIRAL SOMEONE (PROBLY PIETT, unless they get clever and do OZZEL - he was on the Executor too)

5. some dude touching his neck, do I see Vader in there? Unique, Officer, Name very blurred, but could be Darth. On the other hand we already have officer VAder, so maybe unlikely: NOT SURE

6. Vader and Royal guard visible. Unique, Officer, Name says Emperor, so has to be Palpatine: EMPEROR PALPATINE

7. Vader keeling? Anyway, says Emperor again, Unique, Commander, so has to be Palpy again: EMPEROR PALPATINE

8. Unique, Commander: ADMIRAL PIETT

Hold on. On those IGN photos, did I notice that the Ion Engines are painted blue??

thats gonna require some repainting.

Honestly, due to the sheer size I may fiber optic my play version. There's so much room I really can't see a reason not to. lol

Looks like rear arc is 1 blue, 2 black. Antisquad is blue-black. 7 shields. Ofc, thats only for the version displayed.

So that seals it for me, this is not Wave 8. This is a stand alone expansion like Correlian Conflict. Hopefully there is a true wave 8 also in the works.

That was my thinking, yeah. Get this big guy out of the way, that they've literally been sitting on for 2 years to get the model workable, and then release whatever they've been working on since as the next wave. And there are plenty of options...

Rebels...

  • Squadron III (U-Wing, K-Wing, Phantom II, Wookie gunship)
  • Dornean Gunship (combat flotilla)

Imperials...

  • Squadron III (TIE Reaper, TIE Striker, XG-1 Assault Gunboat, TIE Punisher)
  • the old West End Games Dreadnought (seen as the 'Imperial Support Vessel' in the finale episodes of 'Rebels')

This would make me happy

^yeah, although i dont really wanna see that old Separatist Shuttle and the weird Wookiee Gunship as a Rebel Squadron. But i dont really know what else they could use to fill up those two slots for a rebel squadron pack. Thats the problem, there are more remaining imperial fighters than rebel ones.

There's really just the U-Wing and K-Wing missing. All other rebel squadrons (like the ARC 170 also) are just shoehorned into the faction so that they have SOMETHING. I dont really want that kind of squadrons in this game. So maybe lets just do a mixed squadron pack with U-Wings, K-Wings, Assault Gunboats and Tie Punisher?

Any remaining imperial squadrons (or rebel if there are any) can be released Chimeara-style IMO.

They could possibly do yet another re-release of the X-Wing and Y-Wing, with yet more pilots for them? FWIW, I'd rather have the TIE Striker and Reaper than the Punisher - at least the Striker and Reaper appeared on-screen in 'Rogue One'

I saw somewhere that Crabbok asked about clone wars for armada and they implied something was in the works but said nothing outright.

I think there are much more interesting imperial fighter options, namely the Avenger, the gunboat, the TIE Droid & most importantly the Scimitar Assault Bomber (why anyone likes that abomination of the Punisher I’ll never know)

To anyone who is decrying that this is going to be unworkable/you won't be able to even maneuver out of the deployment zone/it will be horribly unbalanced, etc.:

Do you not think that FFG might have been addressing exactly these issues for the past two years?

I really can't understand anyone who says that it will fail because of easy to forsee issues. It's not like they're going to put it out then go "DERP!! We didn't realise that you can't even turn it out of deployment! Shame on us!"

The Scimitar is a beautiful work of art. A finely honed and precise surgical tool of death and destruction. The Punisher is a lumbering ox. I always have liked the TIE Droid too but how do you make it even weaker than a z95 and still worth taking. I wouldn't mind some kind of mercenaries flying uglies either.

My initial mini-thoughts on the Droid could be some sort of range restriction to simulate a droid control ship that means you can’t use send them across the board, say you can activate within distance 2 but also they can’t travel beyond distance 4 of mothership.

And you can activate 2 units per squadron point. Really play on the swarmyness ?

Just some random thoughts.

Yea, I think I'll likely need to break out some orange paint to 'correct' that.

Either that or introduce a new color of die.

Other possible rebel squadrons othwr than Uwing or others: ARC-170, that crazy sorta bwing but a fighter from CW, LAAT/s gunships...

The confusion is likely that they said there are 4 ship types, but only TWO of them can fit into a 400 point game. The other two require higher point limits. Which means there will be multiple higher tiers of play which I'm truly excited about.

That's probably where someone got "2" from. Not two SSDs, but rather 2 options of SSD, of which you may pick ONE.

This was my interpretation as well. I don't know if the non tournament cards means larger format play is going to be a thing or if there will be rules included to be an interface into Corellian conflict. I'd be pleased with one of those but moreso with both.
