FFG Founder stepping down

By Crabbok, in X-Wing

FFG Founder, Christian T. Petersen stepping down as CEO of Asmodee North America. Thank you Christian for all you've done! Best wishes!

Just after they've been sold again? Not very confidence inspiring.

The dude might just want to take a break. Building and running a company is hard work.

Could be, but the timing is suspicious.

They could be related, but without more insight from a couple different sources, speculation seems baseless.

Kind of like how Notch left Mojang after selling to Microsoft, and then Minecraft died and no one heard of it ever again?

It is still going. Just had a huge update for the Java Edition.

That was exactly my point.

I missed the "Chicken Little" reference then. :) Text coms, washing the tones and inflections out of communication since the 70's. :)

Not sure how much it would have helped, anyway. I tend to have a very dry delivery in real life, too.

Asmodee hasn’t been sold again yet, has it? A few days ago the news was “they’re looking for a buyer”.

This has been a long time coming, and the natural follow-up to the sale, I think. Heck, even a re-release of TI looked like a pet parting project to me...

Definitely nothing alarming, and it's not like those who have followed FFG don't know Steve Horvath.

Who?

Steve Horvath, the new CEO of FFG Publishing - he's been involved with the company a long time, regularly speaking at In-Flight reports, interviews with Team Covenant (for example). Heavily involved in the Star Wars side of things, L5R as well, as well as efforts to try to make organized play more of a thing.

You know, Sgt. Horvath, Emperor's Champion of the Black Templars.

Eurazeo are an investment company, it was always going to happen at some point. Due diligence on a deal like this usually takes 2 months or more. They are also selling to another private equity firm so its going to happen again.

For a CEO to step down 10 days after an agreement has been made seems a little premature for new owners to be pushing him out since they wouldn't actually own anything at this point yet. He's been with FFG for 20 years and 4-5 under Asmodee. I know its common that CEO's say they chose to step down even if they didn't, but in this case its probably true.

There are plenty of reasons to cash out right now, including not having a strategy to combat Chinese counterfeiters that cut into their margins. Seems likely that it’ll be sold from a holding company to another holding company...

Oh I remember him now, he had an interesting part in Saving Neophyte Ryan.

Doesn't sound like Starlord to me. (But sounds like a very capable person who knows and likes the products their producing. Sounds like good CEO material)
