Positive feelings on the releases so far

By Aetheriac, in Runewars Miniatures Game

I have been thinking about this a bit. Barring the delay for repackaging, etc. The way that the releases have happened is kind of interesting.

First, Daqan begins to see the stirrings of the Waiqar forces and engages to stop the tide of the undead from sweeping through the lands.

The Latari stir from their isolation to lend a hand. Since there has been little contact with Daqan in years, there are skirmishes between them, as well as the undead.

Finally, the demon horde erupts onto the scene, which none have seen in centuries. The strange powerful demon back armies run rampant through all existing hosts, as they are vile and unfamiliar.

Eventually there will be an equilibrium reached as tactics become familiar and counters are found.

This all feels like it's playing out with some thought behind them. There is a meta-story being told as the releases unfold. We are at the point of the story where the darkness seems to be overwhelming...

I realy hope they can get somone to write some lore and stories from the third darknes. Maybe a turnament driven story where the outcomes of big turnaments shiftes the story in some direction based on the outcome.

Forward Scouts discover the ghostly terrors silencing entire villages, and then, new heroes rise to the fore during the extended conflict, even as additional allies rally to the Latari's side and further abominations and fanatics spew forth from the Ru Plains.

I picked up the Terrinoth setting book for the Genesys RPG a couple weeks ago, and there's a bunch of great lore and history consolidated there. Honestly, I wish it had been out before I had started painting my Latari; I totally would have painted my Deepwood Archers to match the preferred deep blue and purple camouflage unique to the shadowy heart of the Deepwood Forest the book describes them using. If you're into story and lore, it's a good buy.

Waiqar realizes that even if he subdues Terrinoth, he won't be able to stand up to his old nemesis, the Uthuk Y'llan. He seeks help from ancient powers (Wraiths) and the lords at Bilehall (Lord Vodunthul). Yeah, I'm digging this story's progression.

Now we just need the orcish hordes to blindside the Uthuk Y'llan's surge, bringing their marching hordes to a chaotic stumbling halt...

Maybe Organised Play will take a page from the Lot5R lot and have the "campaign" story extend not only with releases, but with the National and World's victories too.

As for fluff. .

With the new Daqan Lord emerging, it almost feels like a "desperate times calls for desperate measures" (Saw Guerra style) tactic so maybe we will see more ruthless Daqan units to combat the hoard, perhaps Uthuk artifacts that the Daqan can use but at a cost (Swap two dice for white, suffer any mortal strikes rolled on you instead for example).

I can also totally see the Dwarves arriving to bolster the Daqan lines (begrudgingly perhaps?) and restoring a more "light side" take, with them bringing in siege weapons like catapults or thunder fire cannons etc.

Latari are digging deeper into the woods and recruiting more of the deepwood to arms, perhaps they will start bringing out legends and other mythical creatures?

I like it.

All of this fighting begins to consume the lands of Terronth and eventually reaches the Orc warbands who accept the challenge. . .

Wow... Great perspective @Aetheriac I can't tell you how much I enjoy looking at it through this lens.

Like Aliana and Kari would obviously be the first heroes to report back to their people on the growing threat. That's so cool. Then Aliana enlists the help of the halfblood Sorceress, while Kari reports back to the closest Daqan Lord.

Ardus would be on the frontlines of the Waiqar surge and Ravos' hunger would drive the horde toward the other realms. Maro would follow soon behind as he raises more and more dead to join the fight, while Kethra finally emerges from the Ynfernael, driving the mass of their forces outward to destruction.

Finally, word reaches the other baronies and Baron Zachreth knows he must lend a hand... if only to ultimately save himself. The Elf Prince sets aside his distaste for the Cyndewin and joins the fight, bringing the full force of the Elves to bear.

The curse of Waiqar leads the thirsty Lord Vorunthul to where the blood is thickest and Thuk'tar and Gorgemaw finally find their way out of the Ynfernael to fulfill their dark destiny.
