what beats Poe without costing more?

By Quarrel, in X-Wing Squad Lists

31 Poe Dameron ( PS 8 )
1 Veteran Instincts
4 R2-D2
2 Autothrusters
1 Black 1
2 Advanced Optics
==
41

Is there any 41-point ship or combination of ships that has a good chance to beat this? I doubt a pair of 20-point Red Squadron pilots could. Probably not even 4 Academy Pilots either (and that's 48 points).

First thing that came to my head:

(36)

•"Crimson Specialist" (36) - B/SF-17 Bomber
Trajectory Simulator (1), Ordnance Silos (2), Thermal Detonators (3), Advanced Optics (2), Deflective Plating (1)

Mainly because of being able to put on auto damage while outlasting Poe due to HP.

These days, Mj. Vermeil with an ISB slicer at minimum would have a good chance

Reapers, in general.

Strezra (Sheathipede Ezra w/ R3-A2, snap and here) will beat Poe for a meagre 21-2 points.

Rebel Captive + ISB Slicer Vermeil will accomplish the same thing quite nicely, though he'll probably take longer to do it.

Fenn Rau has a really good chance, if played well with PTL, or with VI.

Asajj is probably Poe's biggest threat. The Stress + Circle with focus / evade is very effective. If you have points for Shadowcaster, it makes it impossible for Poe to manoeuvre properly.

Thermal detonators do nothing to R2-D2 Poe. Proton Bombs, on the other hand, will wipe him out pretty quickly.

In my experience? The exact same Poe in a list with a better bid ?

Seriously, at the hight of fat turret + Poe my Counter list was a fat turret + Poe list with a 2 point bid. It always came down to my Poe vs theirs. In the end, the Poe that moves last laughs last.

R2-D2 Poe is really really predictable ... fly him a handful of times and you will be able to second guess every move he makes.

As others have said, get him double stressed, or blocked - it's not about the ship you have, rather how, and where you engage him.

VI/FAA Wedge with a bid is a really good way to kill Poe. At 28 points, removing that green dice really hurts, especially if you are at range 2. The challenge here is getting Wedge to end game as he has the biggest reddest target painted on his back.

Nothing except BB8 Poe . BB8 or GTFO.

Reapers with Krennic are particularly brutal to Poe. Jam removes the focus. Krennic takes a shield, plus passes a TL that Poe can't remove with Black One, since it's passed after start of combat. Consistent, modified damage, and taking Poe's focus away.

The other thing I think is very damaging to Poe is Proton bombs. Guaranteed damage he can't regen from.

Fair point. I just copied over the exact build from Bob's Builders.

Wampa with another ship Poe can’t ignore ?

Just roll crits and you’re fine. It’s a good strategy I assure you!

Definitely Agree - not that BB-8 is the only option - but that the difference in how mobile it makes Poe is insane. Regenerating a shield every turn is good but a T-70's green dial is not so amazing that without BB-8's free barrel roll he can't find himself taking way more damage than that in the form of shots he could have dodged if he hadn't been limited to a 1 bank , a 1-3 straight, and a boost.

I will accept that he can shrug off the worst of one attack quite easily, and with his works-against-every-attack ability, light swarms (with 2-dice attacks) will pretty much bounce off point-for-point

Taking out Poe with a pair of Strikers, or a Reaper-And-Striker Pair, is doable, but takes some flying. The latter will, obviously, have a much better chance because Poe is so dependent on keeping that focus token.
