AT-PT

By TheGreenKnight, in Star Wars: Legion

I’d seen a couple of these die-cast De Agostini AT-PT models showing up on Legion painters’ Instagram pages, and since the AT-PT’s long been one of my favourite EU vehicles, I decided to track one down. I managed to find one for a reasonable price on an online model shop, and it just arrived today. I’m very pleased with the quality, and while the scale is slightly off, it’s close enough to work. When the Premium Large Base set comes out (that day can’t come soon enough!), I’ll re-mount it on one.

Since I only play casual games, I’m thinking of simply proxying it in using the existing AT-RT rules, since it’s of similar size and function, but on the Imperial side. It’d be nice to have bespoke stats for it eventually though—does anyone have any brilliant ideas for those? Anyone already been using one of these in games?

It was fully statted out* and had an official model in WEG D6 rules. I guess you could look at their stats for things that existed in both games and come up with a basis for a stat conversion.

*As much as anything in WEG could be considered "fully" statted. They gave you a pretty long leash.

I’ve actually got all three of the old WEG D6 miniatures books, so I just went and checked the Companion volume (the one with vehicle rules) for stats. And yeah, you’re right—there’s not much to go on! It does specify a blaster cannon and concussion grenade launcher under weapons, but everything else is fairly abstract and simple. I guess using the AT-RT rules might just be the most straightforward option.

Along with Imperial Army Troopers, the AT-PT was the backbone of my Imperial forces in WEG days...
Don't think they will ever come to Legion but I sure hope for some nice STL files one day...

Yeah, I still have my WEG AT-PT. It's about half the right size. I've been thinking about scratch building one in 1:48 scale. Would be fun to play with on the Legion table.

These are the only models you ever need. Bring them to Legion games and your enemies will forfeit out of respect.

As is often the case with these older EU vehicles, I’ve had a hard time pinning down precisely how big the AT-PT is supposed to be (here’s Rob Caswell’s original design for WEG, showing it rather smaller than some later illustrations have done), but basing my estimates on the 3 meter height given in every published source I’ve found, I think the De Agostini model is actually very close to the correct scale—maybe 80–90% of the way there. It’s about 65mm, compared to a 40mm stormtrooper sergeant who we can assume would stand about 1.8 meters tall in real life.

Actually, for anyone who plays Imperial Assault, I think it’d be perfect for that!

Also, @JohnnyTrash—that’s an old Action Fleet AT-ST, isn’t it? I have one of those in a box from from way back when! Great basing, by the way. Where’d you get the tiny ferns?

Well if I was to stat it out, I'd do something like the following.

Its clearly more durable than the AT-RT, though without the flexibility of having a 360 degree attack.

I'd go with it being,

AT-PT: 70 pts. Upgrade Slots: Comms and Hardpoint. Special Rules: Armor. Modular Hardpoint: This model may use Hardpoint upgrades that are "AT-RT Only".

Wounds 8. Damage Threshold 5.

White Defense die. Defense Surge: Block.

Melee Weapon: Leg Strike: 3 Black dice. impact 1.

Ranged Weapon: Linked Cannon: Range 1-3. 3 Black dice.

Well the AT-PT is canon due to some mobile game and the Imperial Army Troopers are sort of canon due to Solo so they might show up at somepoint. I know I'd like to see the AT-PT added to the game.

Yo, did you paint the decal on the side of the at-st?

The AT-ST is Action Fleet. Bit tiny but fits the range quite well. (The Action Fleet AT-ATs are in scale for X-Wing btw...)

The ferns are from Busch, a German company that produces model railway scenery: https://www.amazon.de/Busch-1203-Farne-und-Pilze/dp/B000VKNQZ0
