Borrowed Time Resources

By Antimarkovnikov, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

as iGniGhted pointed out, Ace in the Hole gives you 3 more actions during the game, where Borrowed time only ever lets you break even (less if you consider paying the small initial resource cost). It's hard to imagine running this instead of Ace in the Hole. You might run it in addition to Ace in the Hole, because you can only have one Ace. Even then, I would find it difficult to run over Gold Pocket Watch in any multiplayer game (GPW has higher XP cost, so the direct comparison isn't as good, but still).

You could do this over and over again of course, which seems to be the one selling point over the other cards I mentioned. It's possible this is some sort of primer card, to combo with things yet to be released. We already have the Kukri and Chicago Typewriter, both of which gain bonuses if you spend additional actions on them. To be clear, I don't think it's particularly worth it for either of these cards, but we might see something down the line where consistently spending multiple actions at once on a player card is going to be something we might want to do.

But to analyze it against the pool of cards we currently have... it does seem very poor.

also the action used to play it.

For those interested 15 actions was base 3, plus 3 from before +1 for leo +1 for skids ability +4 from two quick thinking with a double or nothing on the first investigate check + police badge, so I initially counted wrong it was 14, but still, Also sure it would have been better to hand some of those to the seeker, but in this instance it was last turn before agenda end of game, and I was last player still two victory locations, and a boss to kill for us to win, missed one xp but still won, when everyone else thought it was hopeless. To believe the card is bad based on action economy alone is a deeply flawed way to view any card in this game at least, in net runner sure, that is the base of net runner, the base of this game is far more complex than that, but hey if its binder fodder for you, let me know, I will gladly take it off your hands if you have no plans to use it, I have seven rogue decks in development and two Lola, and I need more than the 2 I will get. because I plan to use it in every single one. Just MO by the way, take it as you will. As always I encourage you to try what you wouldn't you may surprise yourself and find more deck building options.

i mean.. i can see that.. but Ace in the Hole is a net GAIN, while this is straight LOSS. If and when you draw it, you'll be wishing you spent 6 XP elsewhere. if it was 4.. hmm, it would have it's uses.. but 6 XP? that's a big ask. the one time you need ace in the hole, outweighs the 2 or 3 other times you might come up with a situation you would need borrowed time.

If you have can somehow combo this card with Leo or Ace, the payoff could be big. I think that's why the card is exceptional.
