I typically succeed in getting my buddy Ankaur killed, against his wishes. To alleviate this, I've been placing a carrion lancer in front of Maro to block, and a 2x1 CI reanimate archers nearby to blight my opponent's units who might threaten him.

What tactics have you used to keep Maro alive, while making the most of his late ranged attack?

I've seen @Parakitor use Heartseeker on Ankaur to hide him behind terrain ... I think. Well, in any case, I would try Heartseeker.

Make them react to you. This is the best way to keep him alive. This is also not Waiqar’s strong side.

Last time I kept Ankaur alive, I was on the offensive with a pile of Carrion Lancers and Death Knights. I kept a Daqan Inspiration list just enough on its heels and reacting to me to buy time for Ankaur to deal a lot of damage. I think he did... 10/8/8/6 during the game

Turn him into a infantry battery.
