Tournaments of the Elements

By BayushiFugu, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

So I am going to be running a tournament at our store Asgard Games in Houston and wanted to throw out my ideas for the side event to get people's opinions.

"The Elemental Kami are in turmoil as the clans fight to bring order. Only the bravest and strongest of Rokugan can restore things to their proper place."

Each player will get a point for completing each task. Each task can only be counted as completed once.

Banishing the fire Jinn - If you have caused 3 or more Dishonored characters to leave play via an action on a card.

Sailing the angry waves - If you have moved 3 or more characters using a card effect.

Honoring the spirits - If you have gained 3 or more honor in one phase.

Destroying the Tomb of Evil - If you have destroyed 3 or more holdings by their own card effect or in a conflict.

Relinquishing all and nothing - If you start your turn with 0 cards in hand.

The clan with the most points will get a side prize. What are thoughts?

I like it. The two last ones seem a lot harder to pull off than the others though? Will they all give the same amount of points?

If I might give some unsolicited advice; how about also making some minor story choices? Give the local players some minor meta-plot that they work towards? Perhaps the goings-on of some smaller city where the present clans have some presence?

The only issue I have with it is that some of them are almost completely impossible to do for certain decks without heavily tooling them towards that effect, while others are just incidental thoughts for most clans (Destroying the Tomb as long as you are running the standard 3-6 Imperial Storehouse/Favorable Grounds in most decks will likely resolve without much issue.. Banishing the Fire Jinn on the other hand if you aren't playing Crane or Scorpion will be very difficult due to the lack of kill cards generally available in the game and that the majority of clans don't have ample access to dishonor effects. I think you might want to adjust the effects a little to make them less deck tech requirement and more general play style in line with claiming rings, so for example:
Banishing the Fire Jinn - Honor 3 Character and Dishonor 3 characters or raise a character from Dishonored status to Honored status.

thanks for your input. Destroying the tomb doesn't just count your holdings if you read it fully. As for the Jinn, fire ring dishonors just as well as any card available.

That's why I said Destroying the Tomb is almost an after thought as between activating your own sac holdings and destroying opposing ones it should just happen naturally.

AS for the Jinn its not just the dishonor that is a problem though its the remove from play requirement by card in combination. Most clans don't have in clan PK so are reliant on splashing those clans that have a little (so mainly Scorpion or Crane), Assassination which can be off the table depending on honor totals or Fallen in Battle which can be almost impossible to pull off as it require the character to be participating in the conflict to activate and would resolve before the fire ring effect goes off.
