Initiative One Episode 18: I'm Luke. I'm Here to Rescue You!

By FranquesEnbiens, in Runewars Miniatures Game

A couple Regionals have happened since we last recorded, and Luke follows his Nationals win with a Regional win in Spokane - he's the champion Daqan deserve! The FFG Center Regional happened as well, and Church14 took it with his Uthuk in a heavily-Uthuk field.

In more important tournament news, we had our monthly store tournament for July, and it turned out to be the (first annual?) Initiative One Host Showdown. For all you X-Wing players, come play some Scuttling Threshers if you miss your pre-nerf Whisper.

We also take a brief look at the new tournament regulations that went into effect this week, specifically the new deployments and objectives that we'll see for the rest of this year.

Minneapolis daqan 2nd place.

3x2 spears, lance corporal, shield wall

(2)3x1 xbows, rank, marching cornicen, tempered

2x1 spearman

2x2 cav wind rune

1 rune golem

198 points didnt want the 1 deep deployment.

Went 9-2 round 1 against waiqar. 12 rear deathstar got trapped in careful approach and didn't attach at all after many rounds of shifting. Ankar got in range of xbows.

Round 2 got tabled by @church14. Only second time playing uthuk and first game they were jammed up with terrain so I didn't get to experience how fast they can be. Ravos went way farther then I thought, caught cavalry flank round 2. The sole purpose of the 2x1 spearman were to slow something down with shield. Activated wrong order and they got rolled instead of defense +1, and then aggressive shrieked into xbows behind them. Everything collapsed after that. Dont think I could have won, but would have done some more damage on the initiate order mistake.

Round 3 against Uthuck. He got jammed up in deployment. Xbows did some serious work. Ravos didnt get engaged and did one wound to himself and then took 6 wounds from xbows in one shot to finish him off.

Yeah this is why my friend is starting to steer away from ravos. Just to much of a liability.

Yeah. The two tray Spearmen activating 1st probably results in my berserker star losing 6 or more trays. Probably would not get you the win, but you could have reduced the MoV by a good 30-40 with that minor change.

I was thinking about it later, I think you could have taken out the threshers that were playing hide and seek on your right flank if you had tried for a late charge. Letting me play peekaboo for a few turns let me roll your other flank and surround them.

Great episode, thanks for the shoutout!

Spokane Regional was 6 players, by the way. My list was posted in the regionals thread, @Brikhause uses a cool Daqan build with 2x3 Column Tactics Oathsworn supported by Raven-Pennon Dispatch Runner Spearmen, @flightmaster101 runs a normal-ish Latari, Ken the Uthuk player has a pretty standard loadout with a Berserker Dispatch Runner, Michael is another Latari player with a normal-ish list, and I didn't catch the name of the guy running Waiqar, but he had a wormstar.

@natertot and @Bhelliom, thanks for the info!
