My list of Ships for new Waves

By Piratical Moustache, in Star Wars: Armada

This is my first post on these forums so I thought I should list off what I think Armada should have in upcoming waves.

Galactic Empire

1) Venator-class Star Destroyer (1137m) Medium or Large base ship is debatable, as it's between the Interdictor (1129m) and MC80 Liberty (1200m) in size

2) Dreadnaught-class Heavy Cruiser (600m) Medium

3) Carrack-class Light Cruiser (350m) Small

4) Strike-class Medium Cruiser (450m) Small

5) Lancer-class Frigate (250m) Small

6) Secutor-class Star Destroyer (2200m) Large

7) Allegiance-class Battlecruiser (2200m) Large

? Praetor II-class Battlecruiser (4800m) Very Large

There are obviously more I could list for the Empire but I don't want to type all day. No real need to explain 1), everyone wants the Venator in this game, and Episode III shows Imperial Venators on screen. 2) has a large following as well, and has been somewhat re-Canonized, but I prefer the original. 3) and 4) are meant to be more versatile than Arquitens or Raiders, since those ships tend to preform badly unless you build around them. 3) also has the benefit of being Canon. 6) is Canon thanks to the Tarkin novel, and even has a title card (Conquest). 6) and 7) are not dramatically larger than ISDs, maybe an inch longer on the tabletop so their inclusion isn't a Executor-class headache to implement. ? is exactly 3 ISDs long, which is a 24" long ship, which is what some people believe is an acceptable length for the Executor that I don't agree with.

Rebel Alliance

1) Assault Frigate Mk1 (700m) Medium

2) Lucrehulk-class Battleship (3359.9m by 3009m) Very Large

3) Dauntless-class Heavy Cruiser (1200m) Large

4) More CIS salvage/captured ships

I want 1) mostly because having the MkII without the MkI bothers me more than I'd like to admit. 2) is the best counter to Imperial Very Large ships, and has Legends and Canon presence in Rebel Fleets. 3) has been re-Canonized under the name Marsheem-class, and would be the first non-Mon Cal large ship available. 4) has many examples in Legends, and has been hinted in Canon. This would allow massive variety to Rebel fleet builds and would be excellent for role playing Separatist Holdouts.

This is of course all my opinion, and I am interested to hear what you guys think about my list, and hearing your Armada ship lists as well.

The Dreadnaught might be really an option, especially it could be seen in the last episode of Rebels. I would also like to see the Strike Cruiser and the Carrack Cruiser, they just have to be increased in appeal, because some models really ugly. About those super large ships... I'm not sure, I guess like many other they need an epic version to work or at least be downsized like the way an ISD is downsized to a Corvette.

Truthfully I put the Praetor II in the list to make a point about the unfeasible size of the Executor. Not trying at all to put people down about it, but I just don't want a gimped SSD.

Sliding scale.

Unless you can fit a CR90 into the main hanger bay of your an ISD,or believe that 3 CR90s are a fair match for an ISD in the Star Wars Canon, you have already accepted that that ships are not to scale in size, or power level. Why should the SSD, or any ship larger than an ISD, suddenly ignore this Armada standard?

I think you'll find that debating what ship will be announced next is nearly the only thing that ever gets discussed in this forum. In fact, the front page of the forum has seven simultaneous threads just talking about the unannounced future wave, or wishlisting it, or griping that it will never get announced. Some would say one such thread is enough. I'm sure all would say seven is too many.

My rationalization is this: ships like CR90s and Hammerheads are "magnified" in order to see their details, the same way squadrons are enlarged.

I can accept enlarged ships more than downscaled ships I guess, because most ships in the game currently have been upscaled not downscaled, relative to the ISD.

Also I probably would be that idiot that buys the 8ft long Executor.

Original Trilogy!!

Tector- similar to Imperial with broadsides on large base

wingless Liberty- "Liberty Lite" on large or medium base

Dornean gunship- combat flotillas!

Also, Sentinel for a squadron pack.

I like would like to see more but my issue is what are they going to do differently to what we already have.

One shield less or one dice less on an arc is really worth a new ship?

Take assault frigate 1 v 2. Would would be different? Before it is mostly the same or does what another ship already does in game

We don't need a 3rd ISD. Tector would be best just in a campaign box.

Also given their firepower compared to bigger ships, I always thought CR-90 represented not one but at least a few CR-90s flying together.

That is pretty cool, and makes the scale more realistic. Adds to the feeling this is a fleet rather than a skirmish.

Indeed, I like it very much, even more when you also replace the fighters.

Fighters are hard enough to paint as it is! ?
