Looking at X-Wing 1.0 Through a 2.0 lens

By EastCoast, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Hey all, I created a variant that some of you may enjoy over on BGG.

It basically creates "Quick Builds" for Waves 1-3 (58 ships total), but steals some ship ideas from 2.0 with X-Wings getting barrel roll (vectored thrusters!), 1 Free Hull (Hull Upgrade!), Y-Wings getting red barrel rolls (expert handling!), Ordnance Charges (Extra Munitions!) and ships being built around a threat level if upgrade slots weren't restricted*.

The base pricing of the ships themselves are based on Mathwing 1.0 (to try to keep my own biases at bay), but the upgrade costs are the upgrade cost (excluding those I referenced above). I think it generated some interesting (to me at least) builds and figured I'd drop a link. Maybe one last chance to give those 1.0 ships a victory lap around the table before 2.0 hits.

On a side note, I looked at the TIE Advanced 2.0 release, and I'm obviously biased, but I might like my 1.0 TIE Advanced quick builds better :P

Even if you despise everything I suggested, I still think it's a fun exercise you may want to try for your own table, there is a lot of design space there.

I'm not sure anyone says "Fly Casual" unironically around here anymore, but hey, Fly Casual.

Waves 1 - 5 are completed

Builds for Rebel and Imperial Huge ships are completed.

Deluxe and Ink friendly versions of Dixit sized cards with upgrade text are available. Having used these, I would strongly encourage FFG to start putting the upgrade text on their 2.0 quickbuild cards. I can have a game going in 5 minutes now that I no longer have to rummage for the pilot and upgrade cards.

Thematic quick build squads are now available.

Fly with the 181st, Roll with some Rogue Squadron regulars, call in Phoenix Squadron!

Mission Quicker Build Packs including Epic ship campaigns are now available.
