Stay Classy, FFG!

By HappyDaze, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

What happened to the way starships were detailed? From the beginning of the line, the first entry for starships was "Hull Type/Class" (as opposed to "Vehicle Type/Model" for vehicles). Now we have several products that depart from this, notably Dawn of Rebellion, No Disintegrations, and Fully Operational . These three products--and possibly others--now list "Hull Type/Model" for starships. It's not in all newer products though; both Knights of Fate and Ultimate Power still use the "Hull Type/Class" entry.

So, what gives here? Can't FFG stay consistent and just keep it classy?

I wonder if consistently good editing across a long-running line is just not financially achievable with the type of money you make selling RPGs. Which game lines even achieve that, outside of maybe D&D?

Could be to cut down on the word count?

The FFG designers constantly tell us how they have to be super economical when writing, maybe it freed up a few spaces more and was deemed unimportant info?

You think that using the word "Model" in place of "Class" somehow reduces the word count? That's a 1:1 even trade as far as I see it.

Maybe they're influenced by Disney more than we realise.... I mean, look at Eps 7 & 8 :)

Maybe they should ditch the fiction at the start of each splat.... same as OWoD fluff... always skipped it and reading fiction is one of my other hobbies - just my own preference. That ditched fiction page could be another skill tree, equipment/ship list/ adversaries etc
