I shall say in advance, this may be a brief thread as someone explains to me the folly of my ways. Nonetheless, I'm curious enough to throw this out there.
Characters commence Ascension (or can commence it) from 15,000 xp: is this correct?
If so, then the Primaris Psyker premade package presented in Heed The Higher Call is a steal. I costed up what you get roughly (from memory) and I'm fairly sure it comes out to a considerably higher value than 15,000. Perhaps, conservatively, more like 16,100.
I based my costings on the scholarly psyker path because that's where most of the lores live. I could have costed a Militant (which would give you prices for more weapon training but lose you most of the lore prices) or a Templar Calix (which would considerably reduce your WS cost but again lose you many of the lores and other scholarly bits and pieces) but I'm fairly confident those would also come out higher than 15,000.
When I was finished, I was 350 off 15,000, and that was not putting a price on the various talents that are unavailable on the scholar path (such as the pistol/melee training). There were many of those, and I'm fairly sure that if my GM agreed to give them all to me for 350 xp, I would have to assume he had taken leave of his senses. So, a rough costing up of the things as they would likely be priced were they available (based on the other paths in which they are) would suggest about 1,500 xp value. It would be considerably higher if you had to Elite Advance them all.
But as I said, I may be missing something. Like the fact that all characters begin Ascension at 16,500 xp or somesuch. Anyone have any thoughts? I'd cost up another path for comparison, but I don't know the rest well enough off the top of my head.
