That game is still around?

Yes. God knows why though.

Star Trek is a far more interesting IP than Star Wars. Unfortunately, Wizkids is the worst game publisher on the planet. They are beyond incompetent.

So so true.

Christ, you'd be at Wave 14 by next christmas... our wallets can't repel buying power of that magnitude!

Well, I am talking about just the updates. They want to get everything out now 2.0 compatible as quickly as possible.

Once all the stuff that is out now has been updated, I would expect to settle back into the normal schedule of 3-4 waves a year. Probably with one ship per faction per wave, if that even.

CW era factions would throw all that out the window, however.

My guess is that wave 2 will be along the lines of a conversion kit for the two new factions and a new ship for both, plus a re-release ship for each of the original factions. Waves 3 and beyond will be one new ship and one re-release ship for each faction with the re-releases dropping off as they work their way through the remaining ships.

I’m really split as to how I should feel about the kits being oriented towards a theme and/or the offical 2.0 expansion rereleased ships.

I totally get it, but it does make me doubt my dream of a “here are a 100+ new options all at once” meta mash becoming a reality.

Very nice! I was worrying I'd have to wait many months before getting updated versions of non-release ships, but this is quite good

Think of it this way, it gives new players a chance to learn and grow. While there will be those that jump all in, many will not. Letting them get to ease in is healthier for the game.

Honestly, it’s slower than I expected. I was thinking they might manage something every month.

God, no, we don't want that. Look at Star Trek Attack Wing. They have a wave every other month. No time for proper playtesting with that kind of release schedule and it shows in the game. I don't want that in X-Wing.

All of the older ships have been transitioned to 2.0 already. So they are pumping them out as fast as possible. Once we are caught back up to where 1.0 was, we'll go back to regular release schedule.

Exactly what I was saying.

I'm not so sure about that. I was expecting, and this seems to somewhat confirm, that X-wing 2.0 is going to have a release schedule more like Legion: every month or two something releases but it isn't a whole wave.

I would expect it to slow down at some point though. Legion is full speed ahead because it’s a new game and they want to give it a lot of diversity ASAP so folks are attracted by it instead of going to that other game by GW that is extremely unit diverse.

xwing is going to be accelerated on release to get 2.0 caught up with 1.0, then back to standard. Just like I imagine Legion will eventually slow down

Release Celebrations

Join your friends and local X-Wing community to celebrate the release of each new wave of X-Wing Second Edition ship expansions. X-Wing Second Edition Release Celebrations make use of the Quick Build format to encourage your immediate exploration of what the newest ships have to offer. Play games, try something new, and walk away with exclusive prizes.

More details to follow

i am pretty sure this will be at least a part of these wave kits if not all of them. These events seem really geared to get beginners into tournaments at a fairly even level as the list building elements are cut down to quick build cards.

I also think other seasonal events and hyperspace trials will be full content events.

Man, I hope my FLGS participates in this full bore. He's not happy with the 2nd edition change. Feels he's getting stuck with lots of product he won't be able to sell. he's already talking about only having core sets and conversion kits and no new ship expansions. I think that's a mistake myself. And I don't think he ordered the season two GNKs. which would be a big bummer.

Same issue here. My FLGS didn't even bother ordering Wave 14 or the Store Championship kit. Although, I'm not sure if that's a direct result of 2nd Edition or just pure apathy on his part. It's not exactly the most organised store in the country.

Legion can also release one single character as an expansion and doesn’t have to include iconic characters with generics. When X-wing releases a ship, it includes both and so they can’t string it out as much.

As much as I would love to see things releases as soon as possible, we also have to realize the retail perspective, not just amazon and online retailers but brick and mortar stores, as they have to pay money from the distributor for product up front, and hope they can sell it and make a profit.

Many retailers were likely blindsided by the announcement of 2.0 and are sitting on a lot of stock for 1.0 still.

Now every store is different but too fast a release and the local market may not be able to bear it. While amazon and online retailers can probably afford, or more likely, be able to recoup these costs easier, they don't host the tournaments.

That is a very good point. Yeah, some time for B&Ms to sell their remaining stock of 1st makes a lot of sense.

But aren’t they just dropping stuff they already playtested for the conversion kits? Even if they add in a couple pilots, I think they can get these out fast.

Remember it’s more than just playtesting, they still have to manufacture all the ships, cards, packaging, cardboard, and other components. At some point the capacity of their manufacturing partners in China is going to become a bottleneck, if logistic factors like shipping and the inventory capacities of distributors and retailers don’t bottleneck everything first. Not to mention any of the financial risks and factors of all of the above.

So 1 wave a month with each wave containing updated ships for every faction with new ships sprinkled in is incredibly unlikely. I suspect the new release schedule will actually be more in line with the former reprint schedule.
