I picked up Priority Supplies yesterday and felt compelled to put all three new cards in my deck, and fortunately I was the Blue player.

We used the mines (with the more pedestrian Intercept and Battlelines), and, um, they were a blast.

‘The first two that went off both got double effects, and one did four damage to Leia, whom I then finished off with some blaster fire.

‘I liked just about everything about them, including the area fire and the LOS requirement, both of which came into play.

‘The cards alone are worth the price of the kit.

Anyone thinking about modeling mine tokens instead of just using cardboard counters?

I am. I've had my eye out for office supplies or other household items that could be converted. Nothing great has caught my eye yet.

Heck, I was glad to use my condition markers. Don't remember last time I used them!

Which token is the mine token? Might be something for me to print. I havent had a chance to play the new cards yet. Hope that changes this weekend.

Bottle caps sound appropriate

Maybe thumbtacks? ?

Or lego pieces on hardwood? That's what my daughter uses for her minefields.

Maybe model a barrel with some wires sticking out the sides.

I've started modeling custom tokens. I want them to have bases like the official objectives, but matching the diameter of the condition tokens recommended by the rules. I found some old 25 mm 40k slotta bases in my collection of goodies I've amassed in the past couple decades. But they are significantly shorter than the weirdly tall FFG bases, so I have glued 2mm thick sheet styrene to the tops and sanded the sides smooth. I will be detailing them with some shallow terrain and using 1:72 scale tank wheels for the actual mines. I will post pictures when they're finished.

Played a game with them on Friday and they did 0 damage. Two of them basically created area denial, the other two had 3 opportunities to go off. The first was triggered by two units, it rolled blanks and didn't go off. The second went off once and rolled two blanks on it's black and red. So that was kind of confusing.

Yes. Because I am a compulsive Star Wars scratch-builder. I talked about this for other reasons that Priority Supplies.

Get a bunch of small poker chips or washers. Glue a bunch of stuff to them. Spray paint and drybrush.

Alternatively, get a bunch of 25mm (or higher) scale medieval or dark ages circular shields with reinforcing rims on them. You will need shields of two diameters. Size A and Size B, where B < the interior diameter of the reinforcing rims of Size A shields. Glue the smaller shields on top of the bigger ones. Spray prime and drybrush.

I won a tournament with minefields! On deployment, due to Advanced Positions. Killed 1 snowtrooper. Others I purposely ran into. My AT-ST walked by one twice without setting it off which helped give me the win. I really love this condition. I took out Limited Visibility for it.

Minefields kind of favors Imps, what with better defense dice and repulsor vehicles...

The Transformers Energon line came with "energon chips" for many of the figures, so I have a ton of them laying around. I might use those.

Minefields mechanic-wise is cool and i like it but right now its really unfair.

Ive played it 4 times and all 4 times the imp player's red defense saved his can, while i lost a trooper or took damage on my vehicle every time.

There is a massive difference between a 1/3 defense odds and a 50-50 defense odds. And it shows a LOT.

The ATST is the only one that doesnt have a defensive advantage compared to rebels, since its neither a repulsor or has red defense. But it has enough hp to not give a crap since its difficult to take down without focusing the **** out of it anywya.

Those look convincing! The translucent plastic even makes it "cloaked" or something.

It is uncommon for miniatures games to be both fair and exciting/interesting. Blandness is easy to balance.

A few things to remember, a mine going off is like a shooting attack so you can dodge before you move in and with nimble there's no cost really. Also if you have an AT-RT they can fairly safely move up to force trigger them.

Also, when placing them you can place them in such a way to make sure others won't be placed where you don't want.

Finally, make sure you don't do as I did the 1st time I played them and mistake blast (which they have) for spray (which they don't). A mine went off and just murdered a 6 man rebel squad.

Another tip: you can really take advantage of the fact that you have a high level of control over when the mines detonate (you don't control the die roll, of course, but you can be smart about approaching it). Send a sacrificial unit up first to absorb the mine. And when you do so, try to take advantage of the LOS rules to minimize casualties. I.e., if it's possible to only move 1 mini into LOS of the mine, then that mini is the only one you're risking.

On the flip side, that's something you can keep in mind during placement to make sure there are no "safe" approaches for the enemy.

It's unit not mini. It doesn't matter if you place it near it or not, if your unit leader moves into it, it's going off. It ignores cover and if it can see the mini, which is then the whole unit, it's going to kill more than "just the one mini." LOS is basically if I can see you, I can shoot you. You don't get any cover with it either. The most you will lose is 2 guys unless you're having a bad day, then it's 4.

I'm talking about LOS, not cover. The mine does not ignore LOS. And remember, only minis in LOS can suffer wounds during an attack (a detonating mine is just an attack). I'm talking about hiding 3 out of 4 minis behind a building so the mine can't see them, and sending 1 mini up to trigger the mine. In that case, only that 1 mini can suffer wounds.

Of course, if there are no buildings around and you just send one mini into range of the mine, you're not actually protecting anyone. The entire unit is "at range". But that's not the scenario I'm talking about.
