Saw's "Rogue One" List is so much fun.

By pickirk01, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Finally got Saw's pack and been dying to do an all Saw squad. Ended up with an all Rogue One list instead but close enough. Here is what I came up with for FLGS game night last night.

Saw Gerrera, Wired, Renegade Refit, Pivot Wing, Cassian Andor, Bistan, Tactical Jammer, Countermeasures

Leevan Tenza and 2 X Cavern Angels Zealots all three with Refit, Servos, Flight Aassist Astro, IA and Crack Shot.

Between Saw and Wired, I usually had all the rerolls I needed. The X's with servos and Flight Assist are a dream come true to fly. And using Cassian was hilarious. I was almost never guessing right, but just knowing the dial with the reposition ability of the squad meant I could really pick on a target.

I went 2 and 2. The in the two wins I lost 2 X-Wings in each but was in control the whole game and tabled the 2 scum lists.

The one loss was to another X wing list but with Nym. I should have gone after Nym first but did not and he used my own trick against me to close the S-foils and run forcing me to split fire at fresh X's. I took out his other ships but never put a hit on Nym the whole game.

The other loss was to a Yorr/Palp Shuttle, Whisper, Countdown list. I took out the shuttle very quickly and then went after a stressed Countdown. In one round with 10 red dice, having 6 rerolls and 2 crack shots available, I only did 2 damage...and Countdown blanked his greens. It took two more rounds to kill him and I lost Leevan and a Zealot in the process. By the time I focused on Whisper, I only had 2 ships left and she is hard to corral without numbers to block and strip tokens. She won on points at time as I only had a few hull left on Saw.

All in all it was very fun. Can't wait to actually try to build a strong list with these ships instead of just casual/fun list.

The three Xs look decent, though I don't think Leevan's ability is worth it here - I'd probably just downgrade to another CAZ.

As for Saw - that man WANTS to be stressed, and I don't see enough ways for you to keep him stressed. Cassian is fun, but not the most useful. Bistan just doesn't offer enough imho. I would use Hera and Ezra on him. Load him up with stress by permastopping and then he gets passive mods from Ezra and his own ability.

Turn 1, red stop maneuver. Done.

Or Turn 1 speed 3 to get close to combat range and then do the 0 on turn 2. Either way it worked well.

Edit:

But actually, his Thrust Corrector can also stress him as well as the 3 debris fields I brought along. Twice I rolled 1 evade but cancelled it with the Jammer to still get 1 and take the stress.

2nd Edit: You also missed the point. I was going for an all Saw's Renegades list, but decided to widen it out to a Rogue One List. If this were a tournament list, I would look at Ezra, Hera, Stay on Target or a couple other options. Even lightning reflexes might not be bad for a point.

I'd rather bank stress - without it, you could end up pulling greens, or not getting shot at, and losing it.

Fair point, with the thematism. Hera still works! Though you could trade Ezra for Cassian

I forgot that Saw was in Rebels.

Don't get me wrong, running this was super fun for the theme alone, but there were several times when I wanted to do the 180 pivot but couldn't due to the stress and wished I had Hera, or other times I cleared the stress because the green move was the only option to go between rocks or whatever and then struggled to find modifiers for my rolls.

I am definitely going to revisit this list though as it has some potential AND I love to fly it. I held my own with X-Wings before these "fixes" so now I am really loving it. After getting hammered by Nym's harpoons* though, I am wondering if Multi-Spectral Camouflage at 1 point is worth the dice risk to shed target locks, vs the guaranteed one damage that IA saves.

*My FLGS is very heavy on harpoon carriers. About 40% of the guys love their Gun Boats and most of the Scum players find a way to sneak them in too.

And Hera was kinda in Rogue One!

Those are exactly the times I like Hera. The U kinda needs to be able to pull those stops.

Thats an interesting debate - I for one, would probably take that gamble.
