It was used in the rebels episode to save money, as they had already paid for the set for clone wars but not released those episodes. The asteroid base Maul used in rebels was a set from clone wars too.

Well, it's not like they'd waste an opportunity to cross-pollinate between the shows. That's where Fulcrum first becomes an important part of the story in Rebels, it would make sense Ashoka knew about it.

On a different note: anybody else notice the difference in cinematography, the long sweeping shots and detailed backgrounds? That's what I miss most about TCW vs Rebels.

I noticed and didn’t like that long establishing shot which reminded me of a cinematic reel. I hope that’s prerelease footage that needs some final touches.

The first line of new dialogue chosen was perfect for the context:

”Well, Rex? What’s so important to drag us back out here after all this time?”

Rebels had it's wide sweeping sets too, but yeah, noticeable difference.

I think it's Rebels application of the old McQuarrie imagery, they reduced detail both to reduce costs a smidge and make it look more like his painting/drawing and tightened shots to match McQuarrie's image layout style.

I still think it's funny how both Rebels and TFA both went to the McQuarrie images for inspiration, resulting in the two of them looking a little too similar. It's almost like the Galaxy was all "Ok... it's the Cone Wars, so everything has to be sleek and shiny -> Ok, now we like things looking a little more clunky with high contrasts. -> Too clunky! Smooth it out a bit and reduce the contrast a bit! -> No, no that's not what we meant, you know what, just go back and we'll try again!"

Not really, though they got close with trickery. In TCW you could follow a ship practically from orbit to landing. Rebels used a lot of cut shots (ship approaching camera -> ship leaving camera) and slotting in different matte backgrounds for each cut. The number of models and detail in each shot was almost an order of magnitude in difference.

It was simply a budget decision. TCW was George's third baby, and he spared no expense. Rebels worked with far fewer resources, fewer animators to fill in those vast canvases, less rendering power to even hold a canvas beyond a certain size.

Anyway, I'm glad the trailer looked like the old. I hope the episodes themselves meet the standard.

The lighting is much more cinematic in CW, too. Most episodes on CW were as gorgeously lit as the absolute peak of what Rebels managed occasionally.

Obi-Wan was totally silent in that trailer. I was wondering if they had not yet got the voice actor in to do his dialogue or something.

Voice recording is usually done before the animation, so the mouth movement (“mouth flaps”) better match the dialogue.

Then I'm wondering even more about Obi-Wans's silence ...

I just hope it's as good as seasons 1-5 was, and not as bad as season 6.

Season six is missing something like 10 episodes. And there are several great episodes in season 6, like the Clovis arc, the Sifo Dias investigation, and the story of how Yoda learned the force ghost thing.
