Is the current LCG a reset of the old CCG? Are any of the old cards legal in the current format? Can someone point me to spoilers so I can dig out cards that are legal from previous sets?

You could try the deckbuilder . It can sort per set and even on LCG/CCG.
Basically, the only CCG cards that are legal right now are those reprinted in the Core Set.
Follow-up Q's:
Are the Asylum packs legal also?
Is there a graphic spoiler somewhere?
Can you still have x4 of each card or is it x3?
How many Asylum packs do you need to buy to get a playset of cards?
Where can I ge nice and dicounty Asylum Packs?
Are the Asylum packs legal also? The first two asylum packs are black-bordered, and therefore not legal for tournament play. Mountains of Madness pack is the first white bordered asylum pack.
Is there a graphic spoiler somewhere? The deckbuilder software referenced above is a near-perfect graphic spoiler.
Can you still have x4 of each card or is it x3? X3
How many Asylum packs do you need to buy to get a playset of cards? If you consider a playset three cards, then you need 3 of each asylum pack. The Asylum packs so far released all consist of three copies of ten new cards and one copy of ten other new cards. Future asylujm packs are said to be a different organization, three each of all twenty new cards for a slightly higher price.
Where can I ge nice and dicounty Asylum Packs? There are plenty of places, but since this is the FFG boards, it would be improper for me to direct you anywhere but to the FFG webstore. You'll have to find discounts yourself. Certainly your google-fu is that strong.

Thank you for all the info. My primary problem with the original incarnation of the game was the broken jank that was being churned out from the second base set on. I love the overall design and flavor of CoC so I am going to give it another shot.
One other Q: is it legal to use blackboardered cards that were reprinted if one were to use sleeves?
One more thing: There is now a seeker of the Key and the Gate in the West...

I don't know. The other shops you would be pointing at would have obtained their products from FFG too. Lots of active resealers means a bigger market for the game. It seems to me that the 'direct to consumer' shop is more to offer a service than to be FFG's core business. I could be mistaken though...
Just basic politeness, Marius.
In the local FGS you never talk to anyone about buying on the web, you always encourage 'em to buy from the store you are in.
Here in FFG-land I think the same rules of polite discourse would apply.
That is cool about the on-line buying. My Google-foo is tech on the level of: On the Lamb+Shining Trapezohedron!
I discovered some of the earlier Asylum packs are not so easy to find. I tracked down a Mountain of Madness but the only place that carried it does not have Ancient Horrors. I do not mind paying full from FFG but if anyone has leads on stuff that is not even available here it would be apreciated.
BTW, we are not planning on going the way of trying to play a competative CCG or attempting to resurrect a long dead environment. Instead, we are just trying to get x1 of every product, including the Core box, and playing this more like a cards based board game.

I went nuts in the past month and decided that I needed 3 of everything... and I had none of the APs that were out of stock everywhere. I was able to find Mountains of Madness through Potomac Distribution, but I bought them out.... Ancient Horrors, Spawn of the Sleeper and Horror Beneath were the other three that gave me a fit and it took a lot of eBay watching to scoop them up. I still need 1 more Spawn of the Sleeper and Horror Beneath... but lo and behold, I wandered into my local game store, which JUST started stocking Cthulhu and he had Horror Beneath on the shelf. He tells me he HAD Spawn also, but someone already bought it. I don't know who is distributor is, but I asked him to get me 1 of each and he said no problem.... so we'll see.

Good job, Random_Person !
And Tokuah, you may be interested to know that the FFG "upcoming" page (link above in blue) shows effectively all of the early white-bordered asylum packs as being in process of reprinting.
(Edit:) OK, Marius, you are probably right (below) and I'll share information:
Not cheap, but if you gottahaveitnow, there are two 'ancient horrors' asylum packs listed for 'buy it now' on ebay at $13 each.
Games Paradise in Australia claims to have both packs for sale but at $18 Australian. I don't know the exchange rate just now:
Yep, those packs are hard to find these days.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think it applies in this case for the reasons I stated
@ chicklewis: Good News about the reprints! Aslo, thanks for the links/advice. I am also going to check a local game store that I know has them (not sure which ones), and they are not moving at all so maybe I can make an offer on a bunch.
I am not 100% sure but the core box looks like all reprints. Theoretically I could fill in the set to x3 with older cards and just sleeve everything. Then we will just need to fill in with the AP's.
Alright, I'm going to fill you in on the steal of the internet.
Hope this doesn't offend FFG.
Cool Stuff Inc sells the core sets for $25... with free shipping at $100 I got a LOAD of the Dreamlands packs, a few Summons packs and 2 core sets.

I doubt it will. FFG already made their money on the product you are buying from a retailer. While I am sure they would love to rake in the dough that GW does by accepting (and pushing) direct sales, FFG are very conscious not to step on the toes of their retailers by being too pushy about it.
Case in point, I go to the FFG event center and play games. I play games there for free using their demo copies. If I like a game, I go to my LFGS and buy there. I told Dave the FFG event center manager point blank this is what I intend to do. He said he wants people to patronize their LFGS, but also wishes people to consider them as well. It was very well put. I but stuff occasionally there, but if its $25 or more, I go to my LFGS.
To Tokhuah, the core box isn't exactly all reprints. There are three key exceptions. Anthropology Advisor added Arcane and Investigate, a huge boost for a great card. Steve Clarney became, however erroneously, officially Agency, a surprisingly huge boost for Agency. Torch the Joint went from cost 3 to cost 2, seismicly cheapening Location destruction. To lesser extent - if you ask I'll gladly offer them - there are more examples. Images are altered or changed, loyalties were dropped, subtypes were added, skill was boosted, spelling errors were made, etc.
Theoretically you certainly should fill in the set to x 3 with older cards and just sleeve everything. You'll need to play white border only for a sanctioned, let's say regional, national, or worlds LCG event. At a lower level FFG sanctioned LCG event, I think MU Clarney, for instance, would raise some eyebrows. But if you're like me, and you play cards in the tub, as Mary Poppins once put it, "I think that's going a bit too far. Indubitably."
Here you will find the list for LCG cards from the Core Set, that are exact reprints of CCG cards :
It was the list from Stahleck tounaments, all these black border cards are tourney legal.
Shub made the list, even though loyal was dropped (and the picture swapped). I guess if you want to play the harder black border version, go ahead.
Great info all. Thanks so much. For now we bought the Core set on-line and will start picking up x1 of the AP's as we go along. Having the MRP of the Core set should make the old versions clear enough to use. If we really get into it we can always get more of the Core. Carney will be the only odd one because it will be obvious when one of us is playing agency and he gets used as a resource. Maybe I will cut the bottom off some x20 card I still have floating around from the olde days to mask it!
As for the whole tournament thing, we are out in the Spheres of California so there is never going to be a reason to worry about that, and I prefer more exotic travel destinations than Cons. In reality, I will be playing with one other person and I would like to preserve CoC as more of a board game with cards for me to corrupt future generations of up and coming gamers.
Wow, I just went through my old cards and pulled/compared what I have with the list. The one card that is totally unaccounted for is: The Bootleg Whiskey Cover-Up. Is that a totally new card?
no, it was in the black border asylum pack AP 4 : Dunwich Denizens
