This probably has been answered before so I apologise in advance. What happens to the crit, assigned by Kylo, when the ship is destroyed and not by the assigned crit? Does it get recycled or dies with the ship?
Kyle, Crits and destruction.
The damage card will stay on the condition (and essentially be out of play) until another ship gets shown the Dark Side.

Thanks! We were wondering about it. Now does that crit stay with the condition card or can the owner assign another (different) crit? We don't see a lot of Kylo down here.
Because the card is already in play. I.E already has been assigned a damage card but has not handed the damage card to a ship. You simply give the token to the new target and keep the damage card that is assigned to it.
How does the condition remain "in play" when it is not assigned to a ship? I know that as long as the condition remains in play it will keep its damage card but I don't see how the condition remains in play when it's not assigned to a ship.
I have to believe that when a ship assigned the condition is destroyed then the condition is also discarded which would it turn discard the damage card that is on it.
Because nothing says it should leave play.

Pretty much this. Conditions have specific instructions on when to remove the card; ISYtDS says, "when there is no damage card on this card". So if there IS a damage card, it sticks around for the next potential target. If both Kylo and the affected ship are destroyed before this crit gets dealt, then the card floats in space forever!

No it does not float:
"Conditions on Destroyed Ships
Condition cards assigned to ships are not removed when that ship is
destroyed (unless specified on the card)."
Condition card stay attached to a ship when it is destroyed.

Because as show just above, the condition is not unassigned when the ship is destroyed...

So is that the same as them remaining in play so the damage card remains assigned to the condition with an indeterminate status while it await reassignment to some ship that is still in play? The way I read that when a ship assigned a condition card is destroyed that condition, at least in its current status, is also removed but that seem to disagree with some of the earlier posts.

Quote a rule that says it's removed when the ship it's attached to is destroyed.

No, the rule literally say it is not removed. It stay on the destroyed ship and wait there...

Literally, yes.

As stated above by @muribundi , any condition card stays with the destroyed ship UNLESS the condition card says otherwise. That means that the selected damage card stays attached to the condition. If the condition is reassigned to a new ship, it retains the previous condition card. If not... the damage card stays on the destroyed ship, still technically in play.
Basically, the card is:
- IN PLAY when: it has a damage card on it (after being assigned to a ship, regardless of whether that ship is still active or destroyed, or if it is reassigned to a new ship while still holding a damage card).
- OUT OF PLAY when: it has not yet been assigned to a ship, OR it no longer has a damage card on it.
