I was so excited I created a profile to get the word out.

OMG. I hope that isn't a prelude for the rest of the units.

That’s embarrassing. I think they originally had them as a December release, which is actually a reasonable lag time. Still they could have rushed them faster than some of the other units to save face. Just glad they are finally here.

I'm amazed... not just at how long that took, but also by the fact that I was able to decently maintain hype about 1 new unit type in myself for an entire year!
I'm excited for GenCon. Hopefully FFG will have the new units on display along side all the X wing, Armada and Legion stuff and in typical fashion, a new unit or two there in prototype.
I'm hoping for an announcement for new factions before this game gets any larger. If I didn't know how great the system of play was I would hesitate to buy in to it or a new faction while all the others are 3 units and 2 heroes ahead, let alone the direction we'll start to travel with upcoming releases

I'll be shocked and very disappointed if we don't have prototype models for the new heroes, Serpent Legion, and Venison Skirmishers in the display case.
An enormous coup would be to also have either an Orc or Dwarf expansion army, too...

This had me laughing harder than I care to admit...

Hey, I'm super excited about them, but it just seems like such a natural fit... I'm sure eventually I'll remember their real made up name, but even then I might just keep using venison!

Normally "Big" stuff like that is announced at their In Flight Report so I think if we are going to get a new faction, it will be then and it will be both Orc and Dwarf as you have mentioned. However, they could go the Guild Ball route and have Orcs, Dwarves and what not be a "neutral" faction and usable by others. So Dwarves would work with both the Daqan and Latari and the Orcs would be usable by Uthuk and Waiqar.
What I would like to see is perhaps a "Legendary" unit type on display, something big. . like a Dragon . . or maybe even an official 3D terrain pack or an "Escalation" terrain pack that provides 3D terrain pieces such as ballistas, catapults, etc which you would pay points for and are always deploy-able.

Being announced at the In Flight report doesn't stop them from puttting it out in the display case afterwards. In fact, the display case usually has a bunch of gaps Thursday morning BECAUSE they have stuff they want to show off to the public in person after they announce it.
I do hope we avoid neutral units, especially for iconic races that people want to play as their own faction. As has been mentioned, were in a good position to announce new factions, as new stuff can be "caught up" with a couple of dedicated release waves, still.

Neutral units could be done both as part of another faction as well as on its own. The orcs of the Broken Plains, for instance, have been shown as occasional allies of the humans. So the Orc swordsman unit could come with a Broken Plains faction card and a Daqan faction card, in the same box. Use one of you're playing orcs, use the other if you're playing humans. They could have different pricing structures, and possibly even different configurations and upgrade paths, depending on the faction you're playing—partly for balancing purposes, and partly for thematic purposes.
Not all orcs units would work with humans. A few might be willing to work with other factions instead. But all of them work with the orc faction.

I really don’t want that option.
Just provide humans an orcish hero like they did Kari. You get everything you want without delving into multi-faction units that is such a polarizing idea to the player base.
Two wraiths boxes for me!

2nd.
I really hope they stay out of the 'mercenary' mindset. It's a thematic nightmare.

Me too! I may pick up another one down the line, but two boxes ought to be fine for now.
(I may also pick up Kethra, but again, that can wait.)

Actually, I wasn't talking about having mercenaries. I was talking about allied forces.
As I understand it—and I haven't read the role-playing book, so this may be way off—the orcs are banded, more or less, into city-states and other small governmental groups. They aren't totally unified, but they still have common grounds and will usually band together for defense. Or offense, as needed. They also have dealings with their neighbors.
As such, I can easily see small groups of them working with their neighbors. But each group would only work with its immediate neighbors. So the orcish swordsmen, who live near the humans, might be found in human armies. They will not show up in any other faction's armies, and even in human armies, they will be in smaller numbers. So while the orc version of their unit card supports units up to 4x3 in size, the human version maxxes out at 3x2.
The orcish netcasters, on the other hand, live out near the desert, and sometimes deal with the Uthuk. Netcasters sneer at what they call the soft life, so they wouldn't be found dead in Daqan forces... but small groups of them might be found with Uthuk armies. Though again, these units won't be as large as a dedicated orcish army might get.
Orcish javelineers are an elite band, brought in from across the swath of lands that orcs inhabit. Competition to join is difficult. They won't be found in non-orcish armies at all. (Well, except for select Waiqar armies. But that wasn't their idea, you understand.)
On a thematic front, does this work better for you?
My fear for units that exist cross faction is that it lessens the impact of Kari's and Maro's army abilities and limits a continuation of expanding faction in that regard. Though personally I prefer the passive abilities like HoC and Ynfernael presence
