[Insert cool name here] - Jabby’s painting thread

By Jabby, in Painting

So I finally cracked open my core set box 2 days ago after waiting months for the paints due to delay after delay. So, without further ado, here it is!

Regular stormtruppen. Still Need to highlight back up to white with them.

Elite camo-troopers. Pretty happy with these.

At-Rt. I kinda handlied this one while it was still wet so i messed it up a bit but it looks decent

any comments, advice, and criticism welcome - these are my first ever painted minis, never touched a brush before

that flag is a cool idea. I hope your opponent will ignore it when drawing line of sight. :P

An old trick with flags is to coat an index card with white Elmers glue. Then you bend it as is dries to get a flag waving effect.

got luke finished. Spent an hour and a half on this. Very proud of how he turned out.HvyehLZ.jpg

probably my best painted mini thus far. The lightsaber glow looks great on the battlefield. I didn’t buy any black paint for some reason so i had to improvise with grey and dark blue.5w4x1tX.jpg

second rebel squad. Came across this colour by accident and didn’t like it when i first used it. It looked too green. So i got rid of the part i mixed only to realise it darkened after drying. I then had to try and re-mix it by guessing. I got it in the end though. I need a better camera. In this they look black but they’re actually a nice dark blue.

Also, what is your favourite mini to paint? And do you guys have any nice darker alt-snowtrooper colour schemes?

You need some kind of fill light. The colors on the figures aren't coming through because your light is from directly above, causing too much shadow.

Quick & cheap solution: If you have a desk lamp or similar, shine it through a plastic milk jug filled with water and set it up to the side of your camera when taking the pic.

I like

For flags, if you are in United States I would recommend looking up the flag dude, Rick O’Brien… If you email him the design, he’ll make an awesome flag out of it. About five or six Bucks each... every miniature army I have uses Ricks flags.

My favorite to paint so far have got to be the speeder bikes. Had alot of fun gently weathering them. I also did a squad of Stormtroopers as Shadowtroopers based loosely on the ones seen in EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2015. I painted them black and gave them silver accents as opposed to the standard white with black accents. My second squad was a "Survivors of Scariff" paint scheme. I intend to paint one squad of Snowtroopers in a Galactic Marine style but using deep blues and grays.

Deep blues and greys? Exactly what i am planning.

I'm trying to upload pics from imgur but the forum won't let me. I painted up Veers, Snow troopers and the at-st ages ago but haven't taken pictures yet. I got a new phone so now I can take good pics I will upload them. I also re-did a stormtrooper squad to improve their armour. I also converted a dlt trooper to give the gun a scope and bipod using a toothpick. I will upload them when I can.

The redone squad with the upgraded dlt in the front.

Close up of the dlt. I'll upload the rest of the stuff I've painyed sometime today. Thoughts and criticism welcome.
