Who did it better, Luke or Snake?

I will just leave this here ...

Came here planning to ask when Luke ever battled a crab. . . wrong snake.

Brilliant

Lazy writing? Not sure if any/all script writing talent stayed onboard after the strikes. Disney should have dumped a ton of time and money into the story.... then went on a movie making blitz.

After watching that scene for scene copy, this video was suggested. Pretty funny. If this guy is right and Disney/JJ told Rian that they had NO/ZERO/ZILCH plot for him to follow in episode VIII and to make up whatever he wanted... is true... then I don't know who F'd up worse, LucasFilm, Abrams, or Rian.

STORY comes first.

You can tell a great story with mediocre effects and sub par actors and still get a cult classic most of the time.

You can tell a s#!% story with great effects and great (or sub-par) actors and will get a hot S#!% sandwich 9 times in 10.

Just got to his point #4. LMAO... I'm not the only one who noticed this and that it took away from this story and every other.

"This is the movie we got, and its bad, its a very bad movie. But whatever, we'll always have the original trilogy, 3 of the greatest films of all time. Even if Disney continues to pump out these Frankenstein fan fiction abortions for the next 100 years. That story of the scrappy farm boy embracing his destiny will always endure"

I like the dam busters comparison because it shows the difference in approach. Lucas was trying to push the envelope in movie making while telling a space opera story that was understandable to its audience. Because space combat (in the scope and scale of Star Wars) was new to movies nobody knew how to do it, or what it should look like.

Lucas said many times he copied world war 2 dogfights and movies so that the space combat (although breaking a lot of rules in physics) would be familiar enough to not take you out of the story and ask "Why is this happening?". Heck, most of the audio for space ships in lucasarts arsenal came from recording touch-and-goes from P-51's (read piston engines, not jet engines).

All of this was to fit new film making technology to an epic STORY not fit a crap story to existing film making tech.
