New player, MC75 build

By Crayon, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hello everyone. I just started playing a few weeks ago and I'm looking for a little advice with my fleet. Until now I've just been using what few ships I have, but yesterday I picked up a few more ships so now I've got a lot of options.

my goal when building this fleet was to have a larger number of ships, with less upgrades per ship.

Name: Dodonna's armory
Faction: Rebel
Commander: General Dodonna

Assault:
Defense:
Navigation:

MC75 Armored Cruiser (104)
• General Dodonna (20)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Early Warning System (7)
• Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)
• Profundity (7)
= 147 Points

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63)
• External Racks (3)
• Foresight (8)
= 74 Points

CR90 Corvette B (39)
• Dodonna's Pride (6)
= 45 Points

CR90 Corvette B (39)
• Overload Pulse (8)
= 47 Points

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36)
• Garel's Honor (4)
= 40 Points

Squadrons:
• Rogue Squadron (14)
• 2 x A-wing Squadron (22)
• Z-95 Headhunter Squadron (7)
= 43 Points

Total Points: 396

so is this something that could work or am I way off here?

Hello and welcome to the game! This could definitely work, but there are a few upgrades missing I’d consider to be key. What’s the reasoning behind the armored cruiser over the ordnance? You need to be at close range anyway, you may as well be throwing more black dice. It’s also cheap enough to let you fit external racks, to help make sure you trigger APTs on both shots. Admonition is generally agreed to be a better title than Foresight; it gets around accuracies (which your opponent shouldn’t use anyway,) it gets equal mileage from the evade token (evade, then discard the evade,) and it lives better up close. MC30s also really appreciate black crit upgrades (APTs in this case.) Ordnance experts are important to reliably trigger them. To pay for the change, I’d drop overload pulse. It’s a card that sounds good, but a. They need to have unexhausted defense tokens, b. You need to have a heavy hitter ready after they move, and c. They’ll spend as many green tokens as possible against the attack, because there’s no consequence (you do nothing to exhausted defense tokens, and OP triggers after they spend them.) Everything else looks reasonable. Good luck!

Also, here’s a link to my favorite Armada resource, part blog, part encyclopedia. It was very helpful when I was starting out:

My reasoning for the MC 75 not being the ordinance is that I picked the wrong one lol. Thanks for the catch.

I'm not sure if I understand you on the MC30 though, are you saying to drop the external racks for assault proton torpedos? I don't seem to be able to take both.

Thanks for your help!

Yep, I'd drop the racks for APTs. With Dodonna, they outshine pretty much any other use of the ordnance slot.

396pts.

I'd switch to the ordnance variant on the 75(4pts) (it seems a close combat list). Drop the racks on the 30 (3pts) and foresight(8pts), overload pulse on the CR90 (8pts), I'd also drop the hammerhead and profundity as you have squadrons you need to command that's 47pts. Overall we're now at 326. Drop squadrons to give us 283.

i would then use those points to do:

[ flagship ] MC75 Ordnance Cruiser (100 points)
- General Dodonna ( 20 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Early Warning System ( 7 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points)
= 136 total ship cost

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63 points)
- Admonition ( 8 points)
- Ordnance Experts ( 4 points)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes ( 5 points) *APTs
= 80 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette B (39 points)
- Dodonnas Pride ( 6 points)
= 45 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette B (39 points)
- Heavy Ion Emplacements ( 9 points) *HIEs
= 48 total ship cost

GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
- Toryn Farr ( 7 points)
- Expanded Hangar Bay ( 5 points)
= 30 total ship cost

1 Tycho Celchu ( 16 points)
1 Shara Bey ( 17 points)
1 Lietenant Blount ( 14 points)
1 Rogue Squadron ( 14 points)
= 61 total squadron cost

You're now more likely to proc dodonna and fish a crit with APTs on the 30 also. the cr90 with HIEs helps get shields down so another ship, can put damage you can choose onto it, and provides a different target to dodonnas pride. The gr75 with toryn helps your 30/75 fish for accs, and the cr90 proc HIEs. The expanded hangers helps push your squads.

3 aces all with scatter to help tie anything up, and a rouge to balance it out. Toryn also helps then all but blount.

Anyway that's what I'd change other than that looks solid.

And welcome to the game! Great to have you aboard!

Jabba is also correct about what he says, and the blog link he provided is very helpful!

I’d also take ELectronic Countermeasures over Early Warning System on the MC75. You have some fighter cover so EWS may be redundant and the ECM lets you go toe to toe with an ISD for a round or two.

This is also a point, funnily enough I actually fly a list similar to the OP(original post for the new guy)

I've run EWS and ECM, try both see what suits you.. Ews is great in some games, but ECMs offers better overall survivability
