(1) the knight- he starts with armor and a sword and has decent craft. I don't know if this is right, but we play that if he's ATTACkED by a good character, he can still fight, to deend himself, yet he cant go after them. also praying+2 and temple is really good.

Of course he can still fight is attacked, even if by a good char (unless backstabbed by a Good Assassin gran_risa.gif ). His limitation is that he can't attack other good chars, except at the Crown.

So me playing the knight as being able to defend himself against good characters is lega as he isn't attacking them techinically? even if its illeagle, im gonna house rule it cause it'e pretty bad if he doesn't. Besides, i can't see a knight let himself be beat up by a good troll or a monk lol.

In this case it isn't attacking, read the Assassin's Assassinate ability for extra confirmation (only works when he attacks another char, not when he gets attacked).

I have change my mind now, due because i have played with the Philosopherlengua.gif

My Top 5 at this moment is as follows:

1 Assassin

2 Prophetess

3 Druid ( not played yet)

4 Wizard

5 Swashbuckler

I always loved the minstril from the original game... Is he in the revised 4th ed? I am getting my copy later today.

he is and the Dungeon added some STR 5 animals to charm, making him even better.

Assassin was a top pick for me, assassinating every hard mob left up on the board is easy mode.

Minstrel/Ghoul for 2nd, if lucky.

Warrior is a good 3rd

Not playing Assassin RAW (rules as written) then? Assuming RAW Assassin, there really should be no mobs left (unless only the other chars draw Enemies).

Well, as far as I understand the Assassin, he can assassinate any up enemy on the board. In the beginning, there tends to be a lot of losses in combat all around. This leaves enemies up on the board, which he can land on to assassinate.

Is this not correct?

RAW Assassin can Assassinate even Enemies (Strength only naturally) that he draws llorando.gif . Needless to say, that Assassin has never seen the light of day in our games, he got houseruled back to his normal self ASAP.

This thread talks about RAW, as you say...

You're correct, I do not and will not play the Assassin RAW. That is simply too overpowered for our games, or really any game we'd have running.

If you check the posters in that thread carefully, you'll note a certain "Dam the Man" there gui%C3%B1o.gif (would've used my standard Dam nick there as well, except BGG doesn't allow 3-letter nicks sad.gif ).

It is indeed too powerful..

But if John Goodenough says that it is allowed, then we must accept it...

Every character has powerful abilities....

Me too. It's the original (dating back to the 80s cool.gif ), quicker to write and all along bad-asser lengua.gif .

It's amazing that nobody even mentioned the Warlock, although he cannot attack using his craft, he get his full compliment of spells at the start of his turn and he can basically get a talisman within the first two rounds.

A lot of times I have lost the game due to the fact that I could not get hold of a talisman early in the game, as we usually play with 4,5, or even 6 players at times, it's a good idea to get hold of Talisman early on since in the end, most will be gone and people will stack up on them to prevent other players from entering the Crown of Command.

More often than not the Ghoul wins the games we play, he is a well-balanced character.

My favorite characters are the Assassin and Amazon.

I have once played with the warlock, but he was a little boring to play, even if he has his compliment of spells at the start of his turn.

The wizard has more fate AND the psychic attack ability , that can become very important in the endgame or for cvc

In my eyes, the warlock is not one of the best characters, but people are thinking that he is overpowered because of his compliment of spells each turn.

But he was a little boring to play.. ( that's why i put him in the second choice list here )

1. Amazon

2. Swashbuckler

3. Gladiator

hands down, the dark cultist consistently wins and becomes ridiculously powerful, ridiculously fast, if the other players dont gang up on her.

hard to say who is most powerful, but most wins around here go to assassin, wizard, gladiator, and prophetess. the minstrel also gets his fair share too

Do you play RAW Assassin? Prophetess, really? For us, she is at the lower-end of the scale 3-12 in her 15 appearances.
