Dusting and shelving ships in 2.0

By Ronu, in X-Wing

So 2.0 is redoing ships. Some look better some worse. Others were ships you just chose not to fly in 1.0. While others you wore out.

So are there ships you plan to dust off and fly again? Are there ships you look at now and just go nope!

So for me I bought and never flew my ARC-170 or my TIE Adv. Prototype. Also my Punishers didn’t see much play unless I was building for a specific matchup just to get them in the board.

My arc probably still will not see play. This is more to my Imperials preference than the look of the ship itself. It actually seems pretty solid given the new state of the game.

The Punishers look really solid and should see some early engagements. As much to get used to the medium bases as to just look at them in someway that isn’t a desk or toolbox ornament.

The TAP: I just do not like this ship. So many things even in first edition just did things better. They don’t look like usual TIEs which just annoys me. With that said force using inquisitors spammed in enmass could prove interesting depending on the cost. So it might not be dusted off and used immediately but I might have to actually look at it a bit more serious than I have in the past.

The VXC-100 is a ship I do not own. Also the Decimator and the YV-666 which I have but rarely use. Given the vast changes to the ships, the likely resurgence of swarms, and other changes in place I see these seeing far less play than before. At least once things shake out after about the first 2-3 months.

I might fly some old classics again like the t65. Things that were power creeped out of 1.0 before I started playing :)

I’ve actually been really impressed with just how well done most abilities are in the new edition. There has been very few things that I have thought seemed massively under or over powered compared to everything else. It’s just stuff compared to its old form that seems exceptional.

Agreed, FFG did a good job breathing life into ships to make them unique and interesting for the most part. They have identities that go beyond stats and dials it seems.

I almost never play rebels. rarely play scum. I feel like 2ndE will get my rebels on the table and prob get me to pull out a few more scum ships that normal. We'll have to see if the imperial obsession continues with all the new toys.....

Interested in playing Phantoms. I know Whisper + Krennic is good right now but I'm not really in the 1.0 game at this point (other than buying a few Rebel ships to make the conversion kit line up better). While they lost some offense, they seem reasonably interesting to fly.

Also very interested in playing TIEs and a-wings again. The idea of 2 dice attacks being better than have been for awhile is nice.

Dusting off; TIE Phantom, TIE Bomber, HWK-290, E-wing

Shelving; K-wing, Auzituck

Picking up off the shelf, looking at longingly, tear rolling down cheek, putting back on shelf, crying self to sleep; B-wing.

Edited by BVRCH

TIE Phantoms, B-wings, A-wings and Interceptors!

My punishers were never dusty but they will be used much more frequently. Soon I'll post updates on my alt art commission I ordered.

I will use the Lambda again, so yaaay! Might even buy a second one.

However the Reaper will probably stay in the hangar.

I think my most used ships will be in no particular order:

Punisher

Bomber

Deci

TAP

TIE

Interceptor

Lambda

The new defender is not my jam. I want doubletaps. Reaper or striker.. will see. I'm pissed about the advanced. I hope it's ridiculously cheap. Phantoms I might use occasionally. Aggressors seem kinda weak, and especially lack synergy with anything. Just an average craft in every possible manner, not the specialist it is said to be.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Tempest Squadron Pilot gets cheap enough to field 5 - though I doubt we'll get any toys if we do (maybe, just maybe, fire control?).

It's going to be a fiddly ship to use because of the need to lock, but the difference between 'I don't have a lock' and 'I have a lock' is insane; going from the equivalent of a TIE fighter's primary weapons to a Mangler cannon. I have 4 and might break them out again.

Equally, if Storm Squadron picks up elite upgrades, four of them might be worth a look.

The one I'm looking surprisingly covetously at is scum. I've never been bothered about most scum stuff, but I do have a soft spot for mandalorians specifically, and the 2.0 Protectorate Fang looks pleasingly brutal both as a heavy swarmer and for smaller groups of aces (with Linked Boost/Focus and Daredevil, for example, it can get its nose pointed in a lot of directions without giving up tokens!)

I have a tie reaper but it is staying in the box. I refuse to play it in 1.0 as it is awesome but TERRIBLE in 2.0. So I don't want to love it only to be let down with how rubbish it is in 2.0.

Shame! :( :( :(

I am looking forward to flying interceptor swarms and the lambda shuttle with its new rear fire arc.

Not sure on the GUNBOAT as they seem to be only useful with missiles. Cannon gunboats seem pretty awful.. I will really miss my HLC gunboats, which don't work in 2.0

The Cannon gunboats still work. They work differently but don’t underestimate Ions going forward. Though surprisingly what the Starwing changes too, is going to be interesting. Gone are the 22 point harpoon monsters that are in 1.0 so seeing where the Starwing fits is going to be interesting.

I’m actually going to fly imperials more, the new mechanics of flying have me thinking the smaller nibble ships with good flying and less mods have a shot to stay competitive. So ships like the TIE/ln with some of the name pilots getting buffed and the new force mechanic. I may (cough, cough) fly Empire more than Rebel.

So I’ll be dusting off my TIEs, my Tie Advanced (Darth Vader) and put together an Aces list. To start I’ll probably run Aces list for both Imperial/& Rebel at the beginning of 2.0. Time to fly some X-Wings, Defenders, and TIEs

Luke Skywalker is my new best buddy. (Sorry Poe!)

I foresee him and Darth Vader getting a lot of table time knowing the modding their both capable of (in addition to Assaj, The Grand Inquistor etc.)

i'll be shelving my Tie Phantom, i have 6 Interceptors and they can do the same job with better agility, without the 4 attack dice it just doesn't cut it for me.

I might bring out the Decimator , there are a lot of good crew available to the Empire, also the Firespray for the scum, it looks so changed that it could be really fun.

I'm curious what metric (heuristically speaking) you're using to determine that without knowing 90% of the points costs in the game.

The lowly Z-95 looks pretty underpowered compared to an E-Wing until you know the points cost disparity, which in 1.0 actually lead to the E-Wing being the underpowered ship compared to the Z-95 when compared points-for-points.

Just gut feeling. Not based on any rigorous analysis or anything. Point costs certainly have a huge impact but if there were a pilot or ship ability that was just WOW, AMAZING or outright blew chunks, that would be concerning, and I’m not really seeing anything like that.

Xwings won't suck anymore

Ywingz will have a reason to exist (that doesn't rhyme with blt)

Awing blocking shenanigans and general manuevering fun might matter again

Bwings might not be crap

ARCs will have a reason to exist that ISNT being overshadowed by Miranda, low, and/or rau

Might actually fly my yt2400 since there's actual thought involved in turrets

Might put my Striker and Gressor on the table (see A and Y, respectively)

Mayhaps the Advance won't just be Vader

Holy **** bombers and punishers actually look NICE, of which I got three and one

Might regret selling my lambda literally years ago

Actually didn't play many Gunboats in the super inflated ps meta. ASlam, Ions, and prockets inc!!!!

TIE phantoms went from glass cannon luck-tastic matchup wing to seemingly very solid and definitely fascinating ships. May actually buy more :o

...

Man was 1.0 balanced or what!?

Ehmm... What?

The Aggressor is revealed to be the most boring ship in the game, in its hypothetical cost range. It directly goes against the lore of being a super specialized craft, by excelling in exactly nothing. Still probably lacks upgrade slots (unless it got a system, in which case I'll shut up, but I think that's hardly likely) and doesn't have a ship ability either. With LWF gone it has no advantage against the Y in ANY situation, and the linked action it got, has NO synergy with anything.

It has a gunner slot... but the empire has like... 2 gunners? When compared to every other faction so far, the Empire gunner slot is the weakest, so while it is better than it used to be, compared to other ships it is still bad.

And the Advanced literally got worse in every way, except Vader. Maybe the generic got an Elite slot. No Evade hurts, still require locks, doesn't add a result anymore, still 2 native attack dice, still no boost (even a red one would be welcome)... The dial got a tiny bit better? That's not a good trade off.

I agree with most other things you said. But these two ships... I really don't understand what makes you happy about them.

The pathetic state of the Advance makes me sad that Stele isn't in a Defender for now (if ever). I worry it'll be overcosted at launch again and still be terrible besides Vader (so, just like 1.0).

Image result for the dark side clouds everything

But I share your concerns, young padawan

Starvipers - A built in PTL basically with talent slot wide open.

Phantoms - havent flown them in a long time, but the imperial crew (hello Inquisitor) just has me excited to fly Echo again.

Old Teroch - Me and Old T go way back, my best bud in the Defender token stack meta. And in 2.0 he is exactly the same. Cant wait to put him back on the table.

Vader looks to be God tier.

Dengar looks to be down the toilet he flies.

Boba will great.

Chirpy...unknown.

overall I’m really looking forward to flying all my ships again.

I’m happy to lose Dengar to gain my x wing game back.
