Epic Epic - 500pts per player, 2v2 (Imperial Edition)

By Regnak, in X-Wing Epic Play

As per Surak's topic, the theme of the game seems to be "Go Big or Go Home", here's my current thinking for a double raider list -

RAIDER 1 FORE - Single Turbo Laser, IGRM Thugs, Backup Shield Generator

RAIDER 1 AFT - Tactican, Shield Tech, Quad Lasers x2, IGRM Thugs, Optimised Generators

RAIDER 2 FORE - Single Turbo Laser, IGRM Thugs, Backup Shield Generator

RAIDER 2 AFT - Tactican, Quad Lasers x2, IGRM Thugs, Ordnance Experts, Optimised Generators

3 x Glaive Defender - TIE/x7 & TIE mk2

3 x Rho Gunboats - VI, Harpoons, OS-1 & Advanced Slam

TIE Bomber - Jonus - Swarm Tactics, TIE Shuttle, TIE mk2, System and Tactical Officers.

TIE L/N - Academy Pilot

this should be fun up against my 5 C-ROC squadron - love the token TIE/LN

I'm not worried, honest

Tempted to drop the Glaives for a TIE swarm but you know how bad I am at flying formations.

If you did that we could call the game "go big, or play bumper-cars" :D

Can't emphasize enough how much it would benefit you to drop the academy pilot for those 3 glaives to be ruthlessness tie/d's that's losing 1 2 dice shot for 3 3 dice shots. Volume of fire plus splash damage really is king of epic in my experience.

Also those rho boats could become 3x nu gunboat with mangler linked and long range scanners.

That gets you the token tie back, increases crit rate and removes the reload hassle, -and- squeeze in operations specialist. Opspec is the best 3 point crew I've used in epic. Any misses become better accuracy or defense for self/allies. With the very high volume of fire some stuff will miss each turn op spec makes those misses go from "****" to "meh, I'll just bubblewrap that guy you're gonna shoot).

Epic games are normally decided in a couple turns of shooting. Each turn separating a shot is giving the opponent an edge. I know I just went on about splash but the 3 glaives can splash 6 damage every turn as opposed to harpoons... which are... less consistent.

These dudes'd actually be Gunnery Team right?

Was thinking the Ordnance guys would help with making sure the harpoons hit.

Oh ofc! Sorry, I had completely forgotten the friendly buff part of Ord Experts. Was just thinking what missiles they were affecting, with all the quad lasers there. Doh.

No probs, I'm now doubting spending 5 points on a single dice per round upgrade on something that already has a re-roll.

Can an epic ship acquire a focus token this way?

N...no.

Ops spec is good on epic ships because it increases the bubble size.

Ops spec range is 1-2 from the carrier. Any friendly ship that misses a shot while inside that bubble may assign a focus to any ship range 1-3 (of the shooter not the carrier)

This let's you sling focus across the board to ships that need them and mitigate misses of any of your ships.

An epic ship that misses a shot may assign said focus to a non epic ship so it's still useful there

All this for 3 pts to do what people like comms booster for (hand out tokens after activations to those who really need them) without eating energy. And no once per round limit either so one opspec can do what it would take 6 comms boosters to do.
