Wing Commander as an X-Wing style game - Viable?

By TheEldarGuy, in X-Wing Off-Topic

The last reference to Wing Commander franchise I found was a card game made by 'Jumping' Jeff Grubb - a true gaming veteran. Apart from that the Wing Commander Franchise drops off the earth about 1999 (Y2K Bug maybe?)

I'd imagine Universal might still hold the rights to the movie, and EA might have rights to the game (but they don't care for it apparently).

As a tabletop miniatures game... I reckon there'd be some action in that game.

Anyone with thoughts?

As a simple reskin of X-wing...I guess so?

But my main memories, and my favourite bits of both Wing Commander (and Freespace and Starlancer) were the missions which features both fighters and capital ships - and that 'take out the turrets/shields' interaction and dogfighting in the space between two brawling capital ships.

That sort of thing can be covered by X-wing (in epic) but if you wanted to have it be a core part of the game, you'd have to think carefully about scale.

Missions are one thing that seems to be missing in X-Wing 2.0. We loved going through the missions, and that's what makes tabletop gaming great.

I would not mind that.

The original Privateer is my favorite of the series. I still have fond memories of my Centurion battling it out with the Alien Drone.
