Any news if 2nd edition has repaints, in places the model does stay the same (notably Scum)?

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Thinking, here, of the few paint schemes S&V has running around. Specifically:

  • 'Black Sun' that is on the StarViper retail kit, Z-95s in 'Most Wanted', and Khiraxz in 'Guns for Hire'
  • 'Cartel' type 1, on the retail Scyk and retail Khiraxz kits
  • 'Cartel' type 2, on the retail Kimogila and the Scyk in the C-ROC expansion
  • 'Syndicate', on the Y-Wing from 'Most Wanted' and Scurrg expansion

...all referring to the 1st edition expansions, of course. Any possibility we see some mixes in 2nd edition? IE., a Scurrg in Black sun colors or StarViper in one of the cartel schemes? Or even any of the other ships not yet in a Scum paintscheme - IE., I've seen a few folks running around with HWK-290s in Black Sun colors. That looks pretty killer, would love to see it happen retail somehow...

I think 2e Firespray is confirmed in the article to have a different Paint job.

The 3D model of the Fang looks like having a different colour scheme...

And developers also manifested that they will release scum versions of Y-wing, Z95, and HWK.

And marketing-wise is the most obvious decision to try offer the all the posible reasons for veterans to buy a 2e ship we already have.

I mean, I'm not a heavy collector, and I have already 4 interceptors. But make a new sculpt, or a different colour scheme, and i will buy one instantly.

I already planed buying the new Y-wing sculpt (i just have 1 y-wing) and not planning getting the conversion kit for rebels for the moment.

We're expecting there to be Scum versions of the various ships which have rebel and scum versions, but not to be any palette swaps beyond that. The days of ace packs with repainted ships are no more.

For now, anyway.

Yeah, I was wondering if they'd commented on the release schedules for the post-wave-1 stuff. I mean, it feels pretty unlikely they'd need to do a "Most Wanted" sort of kit that launched S&V in 1st edition, since S&V is here all along in 2nd edition. So...how do they plan on retail releases of the Scum Y-Wing and Z-95, at the very least? If getting their own, new, release...why not a repaint? Heck, just swap the schemes - a 'Black Sun' Y-Wing or 'Syndicate' Z-95...

I don't think they've said that per se. Even with the App to fix things, Ace packs are a good way to release new content for existing ships, especially if that ship is featured in a new film, tv show, etc. They've only said that theh do not intend to rerelease old paintjobs at this point.

And technically, we already have an "Aces pack," with Saw's renegades.

some Crimson Dawn paint schemes seem to be in order.

Would love to see that, but I don't think we've actually seen anything from Crimson Dawn that *has* an identifiable scheme, no? Dryden's yacht is the only ship of theirs we see at all, and it's just...a big slab of black.

Maybe the color scheme of the StarViper in 'Guns for Hire' would work as a pattern for them?

I think all we've been shown is Qi'ra's necklace and Vos's ring. so just a couple variations of the symbol .

i think repaints are really going to hook older players and collectors into buying new 2.0 ships. repaints hit a large part of the xwing fan base who just want to fly great looking ships but dont have the time/patience/skill to paint their existing ships.

That's not wrong - I'm skipping 2nd edition more or less, but those new Y-Wings are definitely an auto-buy for me. I can just sell off the 2.0 cards and stuff with them like I did with the 2.0 parts of the last wave.

If they drop some new Scum Y-Wings in Crimson Dawn or Black Sun color scheme, or Z-95s in one of the Cartel schemes or Crimson Dawn or etc? Yeah, I'm down to pick up a couple more models for my 1st edition rules and cards...

It's entirely possible FFG re-thinks some of the releases anyway.

I mean, they have to do a Scum Z-95, of course, but without a need for 'Most Wanted'...?maybe it gets packaged with the Hound's Tooth, in the 'pups paintscheme?

Talking about Z-95 I wonder if the Rebel Z-95 might not get a new paint scheme now. So far it looks like the Resistance uses blue squadron markings while just about every Rebel ship uses red colors so I wonder if they might end up having the 2.0 Rebel Z-95 released in red to match the aesthetic of the Rebels.

I think of all the factions so far the one that will likely see the least change will be the Empire. Aside from a better working Lambda, possibly new Tie Defender sculpt to match Rebels, and gunboats with folding wings I don't think they will receive any new models. The Rebels might end up getting an updated B-Wing mini, Rebels YT-2400, and a Ghost with actual docking/undocking Phantoms.

FFG is not stupid, so they will try to hook up the veterans with new sculpts, new repaints, new pilots, new cards or everything all together.

So I expect that most of the reedition of old ships will have something to attract veteran players. Be a new sculpt or a new repaint.

Sure as **** I'm buying the Core not only because i want to be able to play 2edition (damage deck and movement templates) but also, because I want the new wigly-wigly X-wing, and also 2 more TIEs hopefully better modeled and painted than my red Core ones... ?

That one's Zann Consortium colours, I think.

Lambda's really easy to adjust to make the wings fold down further. Just take an x-acto knife and carefully scrape at the notches on the underside. All it takes is a couple of thin scrapings to come off, and you get much better range of movement.

I hope not. The Interceptor wings on the Elite were ugly af. The normal TIE Defender was just done in Rebels' **** art style, it doesn't need a new sculpt.

and gunboats with folding wings

I really doubt this will happen. There's no point. Unlike X-Wings, Gunboats never fly with their wings raised and unlike the Lambda there's no real space to be gained for storage by folding them. There's also the fact that they're much smaller than the Lambda, so the hinges would be more obvious and break the flow of the model more. The gunboat is one of the newest and most detailed sculpts. The X-Wing and Y-Wing got fixed up because they were old, and didn't hold up in terms of detail to the newer sculpts. I think FFG wanted to rework them anyway and just threw the working s-foils on as a bonus.
