Nothing About The Conversion Kits Upsets Me

A D20? Back in my day, we used to have to scratch 1-20 in the dirt, and then throw a rock at it to see what we got.

OMG, I got my first D&D box when TSR was out of d20s. The box came with a bunch of chits numbered 1 through 20 that we were supposed to throw in a cup and pull at random. (Actually true)

Luxury!

Back in my day, one guy called being the TIE fighter, and the other the X-Wing, and we threw rocks at each other...

Too much happiness on this thread !!!

Quick we need some negatives post here for the balance of this thread ! ?

d20? d20? That stuff was easy.... try working out a 1 - 24 result (there's a 1st ed. AD&D reference for you).

We'd get a number like 5 to 14, and then left to our own devices how to generate it - none of this namby-pamby 3d4+2 nonsense.

A friend of mine wrote a small math/maths paper on how you could play D&D if you were stuck in a place with only D6s. He devised a way of getting any of those wierd distributions, using some cool tricks.

Inspired by those times playing Ad&d, when someone would buy a trident, and everyone had spend 5 minutes working out how on earth you could generate 3-10.

(The simple answer is just d8+2, but you can get an even distribution between 3 and 10 by: throwing one d6, and rerolling if a 5 or 6 comes up, then roll another, and add 4 to the first result if it comes up on an even number, then add 1. Or for 5 to 14 you would roll 2 D6, and add 6 to the first if the second one is even (rerolling if your total is over 10), then add 4. Impractical but you get the idea!)

We had that. There were no dice. Used chits for everything.

And when it came to generating numbers after switching to AD&D, our DM was a computer guy. He had a commodore PET 16k (and later a Vic 20). He generated all the numbers randomly in software and printed them out in advance. Every die roll was on his long sheets of computer paper. He thought it was the greatest thing. We players hated it.

We're fine here, we're all fine. How are you?

When the Mandatory World Tour came to our local venue, he sang this as he entered, and when he passed the fountain outside, Al shoved some guy into it! XD

Talk about a lame claim to fame!

I love how this thread has just turned into a "back in my day" thread.

Well back in my day we didn't even say "well back in my day" because that was so long ago there were no old days to look back to!

Pretty sure 1d8+2 is the correct answer and any complex nonsense you cam up with is wrong juts because a trident is a spear "plus two points".

No, conversion kits and all of 2.0 are a total bull-**** FFG cash grab with no respect for players like me with large collections!!

wIXL8UMbudOrnQ-x9Uh8uk_UiwuuRDSdN9R3aFkW

I have calculated that I'll need at least 4 of each conversion kit to convert my collection (8 starvipers, 8 defenders and a zillion x-wings guarantee that!) so FFG is forcing me to pay them at least $600. And that's not even considering that I might want to use all of it with the same generics which could as much as double my conversion kit requirements depending on the cardboard organization.

I'm barely paying for food as it is and now I need to spend more than a month's rent just to continue to play the game that I ALREADY PAID FOR? This is immoral and illegal and I intend to bring a class action lawsuit against FFG and Disney for this injustice.

</extreeeeeme sarcasm>

In all seriousness I'm still surprised at how generous FFG is being on this whole transition compared to what they could have done, and I'm in total agreement that the conversion kits look great and I'm looking forward to picking up one of each :)

... and yeah, why I have so many ships is a long story but suffice it to say it was not really intentional and I intend to help a lot of my locals fill out there collections pending 2.0 as there's no need for this many ships.

But what so ever will you do about the shield token shortage and the generics issue?

Excuse me sir I included the generics "issue" in my rant!

Shield token shortage is a new level of stupidity though, thanks for bringing that to my attention for next time! Incidentally I just dumped a huge bucket of tokens in the recycling the other day...

Generic Issue? I only use name brand Kleenex!

You throw shield tokens away???!!!!

Must be nice.

I have 33 Misthunters, so I need 17 conversion kits to convert each of them so that I can use every single one at once!

What, you don't believe me that I'll ever use them all at once? Uuuuuuuuuuuh, shut up, that's why.
What, you don't think I need the entire conversion kit and can trade stuff I don't need for Misthunter stuff? Uuuuuuuh, shut up, that's why.

Just feel bad for me, OK?!?

Really it's just good business sense. A lot of people likely wouldn't be willing to make the leap to 2.0 if it cost much more than this. It does generate some good will but at the same time they likely figured out what was the sweet spot where most people are going to be willing to convert.

I'm so thankful for this thread. All the complaining about 2.0 was really starting to piss me off.
