What should the highest threat be and what would be the build?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

So with the casual/pre-build format it seems that the highest threat is 5 and looking at the threat 5s they don't seem to be anything too powerful (like a Super Dash or Palp Shuttle) for those builds. So I got thinking is there anything higher than a threat 5 and what it would look like?

So take a build that win worlds what threat would you make that; 5, 7, threat 10? An idea popped in my head for casual campaign play where a boss ship would be threat 7 (and a mini-boss would be threat 6). These would be the Palp shuttle and tournament winning Soontir Fel/Pre-nerf Whisper builds. So what threat should a top table ship be, what should be the highest threat level, and if you were going to build a threat 7 (or 10) ship what would the pilot and upgrades be?

Don't... seem... too... powerful?

When one of them is Supernatural Vader?

Okay, describe the build and give a threat level (1-100 okay maybe not 100 how about 10?)

Well a decimator can easily go over 60 points in 1e so that's 120+ points in 2e

So if ~25 point is a threat. I'd day 6 threat is the max. Excluding epic ships.

Maybe a super expensive 2.0 dash build could be closer to 140/150 but threat level is only for prebuilt cards and I doubt they would make threat seven builds.

Based on stuff we know exists for 2.0

  • Han Solo
    • Pilot Card
      • 34014147_1428452133922763_19817810051066
      • 46 points in 1.0
      • Allows attack and defence rerolls that now stack with lone wolf and millennium falcon
      • range 1 of an obstacle is pretty easy to achieve
      • initiative 6 is worth proportionately more than PS9 now veteran instincts has gone in the bin.
      • I'd add a couple of points each for these abilities so call it 48 points in 1.0 terms
      • That's 96 points in 2.0
    • Millenium Falcon
    • 33982948_1428457623922214_71227935420107
      • 1 point in 1.0
      • Adds white evade action (as 1.0) but also allows a defence dice reroll whilst evading without spending the token.
      • Probably worth an extra 1.0 point for the reroll
      • Call it 4 points in 2.0
    • Lone Wolf
      • 33992769_1428467993921177_77679142857531
      • As a large ship, there aren't a massive number of talents you can take, especially since you don't have a normal arc primary and don't want to be locked into bullseye arc shots
      • This gives you offensive rerolls that require no actions or input on your part.
      • 1.0 cost is 2 points
      • Assume 2.0 cost of 4 points
    • Luke Skywalker
      • Upgrade_Kit_Rebel_karty_176420_600x0.jpg
      • Allows a turret rotate without burning your action (so still allowing you to evade or boost) or lets you use the force as a mini-focus-token if you don't need to move your arc.
      • Spoiled as 30 points in 2.0
    • R2-D2
      • 34103777_1428455013922475_22084038291986
      • It's essentially unchanged. It now requires you to be damaged, though, not just unshielded.
      • On the other hand, it's still unlimited, dial-free, action free shield regen.
      • Astromech R2-D2 had the 1.0 cost of 4 points, the same as Crew R2-D2.
      • Astromech R2-D2 now costs 10 points in 2.0, despite picking up a charge limit.
      • swz01_app_screenshots.png
      • So, barring any better evidence, I suggest Crew R2-D2 is 10 points as well.
    • Engine Upgrade
      • 33964178_1428457097255600_83176076894713
      • Turns a red boost white
      • Given how powerful a boost on a large ship is, I imagine this should be expensive. Most things with a red boost will be 'we really shouldn't give this ship boost, but...', and they're the only things which can take this.
      • 1.0 cost of 4 points.
      • If it's being restricted to large ships, where it's a very powerful upgrade, I'd consider making it 5-6 points in 1.0
      • Split the difference and give it a 2.0 cost of 11 points (yay for half points!)
  • That works out as a net estimate of 155 points - or ~ 6 threat.
  • Given that the threat cards are quick-builds for new players, and new players are likely to want to play the iconic stuff, I'd be amazed if there isn't an 'everyone in the falcon' build.
    • Since, I would note, it doesn't matter what slots you give a ship in the app, because threat cards =/= the app, nothing stops them producing a 'proper' one-ship-squad 'everyone in the falcon' with many more upgrades than would normally be allowed.
    • Adding in 50 points (25 2.0 points) worth by giving it, say:
      • Shield upgrade
      • C-3PO
        • 33828811_1428453767255933_77491646060224
        • Okay, Threepio is less useful when on the falcon, which wants to evade for double-rerolled defence dice, but he can give you the ability to get two evades off one die, which works out slightly better on average if you're only being shot at by one opponent.
      • Chewbacca
        • 34036919_1428454670589176_17526430825258
        • Because even more damage repair with no actions required. Also - note the synergy with R2-D2; when R2-D2 'goes wrong' what he actually does is flip the card up so Chewie can remove it entirely .
      • Leia Organa
        • 34092946_1428455290589114_40164118318987
        • I doubt the falcon has much need of Koiogran turns, but I thought I remembered someone saying the speed 1 turns are now red. Not anymore they aren't.

I'd be very surprised if they release threat cards above 5.

I suspect the highest threat possible for a single ship would be the high end of 6/low end of 7.

The highest threat for a single unit on the board at the start of game, with docked ships included will probably be more like the top end of 7/low end of 8. I'm looking at you, 270-arc Ghost.

As threat cards are more like quick builds I doubt we will see ships with too many upgrades. So 5 seems to be the limit. Also kinda remmemeber thar Scum Falcon Han had a 5 threat level card

The other issue with the threat levels is that they can't account for synergies that make a squad more than the sum of its parts. Break down the classic Dengaroo and you will find a high threat Dengar and a mild threat Manaroo. Put them together and the actual threat of the list is much higher than what the sums would indicate.

Threat card games will be 8 threat standard. So each threat level is roughly 25 pts.

In 1.0 I can build Boba Fett to cost a ridiculous 82 points. The highest of any single ship. That's 164 2.0 points and threat 6.5. Bear in mind it is a ridiculous build and I think we will not see threat seven.

Maybe some threat 6 cards would be nice but capping them at 5 is fine imho. Let us come.up with the crazier 150 point builds.

I sort of wish the app had some sort of threat rating feature on a ship build so you could make your custom prebuild ships for a scenario. I am still thinking of a threat level 7 Vader as a scenario boss.

I suspect high dps and high hp ships will be the major threats with green dice and ace platforms being nerfed. so stuff like fat han, missile swarms. etc. what ever you do, if you cant garrentee that you will never be shot at, DONT FLY ARCDODGERS
