What’s left for this year

By Lumberjack Nick, in Star Wars: Legion

With Palps and the Royal Guard that only leaves one expansion left to even out the Rebels.

They still need an operative and a counterpart for the Royal Guard.

I still think the safe bet will be Chewy as the Operative. My money is on a Hoth Rebel Solder Unit, even though that’s not really a good counterpart for the Royal Guard, but I suppose neither is Chewy to Palps. If the Hoth Troopers aren’t the Royal Guard’s counterpart then it’s almost assuredly the Sandtroopers which will probably be release Q1 2019. What could be a good counterpart to the Royal Guard? Will General Rieekan be the Rebel’s fourth commander, and Tarken be the Imperials?

Then who is Palp’s counterpart? Ben Kenobi? Yoda?? Nether are really battlefield ready during the OT. But neither was Palps really.

What do you think?

Do you think we’ll see a Rebel Tauntaun Trooper and Imperial Dewback Trooper this year?

We’ll we see anymore vehicles this year, like maybe a light Imperial ground vehicle or a heavy Rebel ground vehicle? Or a heavy Imperial repulsery vehicle and a light Rebel repulsery vehicle?

What other holes do we have?

Or do you think that’s it for the year and we won’t get another release past who the Rebel’s operative is and their fourth trooper unit until Q1 2019?

Personally I’m excited to be getting the obvious characters out of the way so that we can get into the more random stuff next year, like Krennic and the Death Troopers and Saw and his Renagades. More bounty hunters. The Ghost Crew. Maul. Rogue One crew, Scarff Troopers. Sky’s the limit! Next year should be pretty awesome!

Chewbacca is a dead set for the Rebel Operative - and he's got some Endor comparison with Palp too. If Rebels do get a second special forces right away though I'm not sure what it would be. Rebel Honor Guards would be the parallel and are on screen, I guess.

Put some Em-nu on that pistol belt, man!

Operative for the rebels and that is certainly gonna be chewie. Maybe some more vehicles but im not sure.

Chewbacca operative.

The safe money is a Wookiee Warriors special forces unit. The “Tena[city]” upgrade card has an image of a Wookiee on it. They potentially fill a similar role to the royal guard.

Assuming we’re still roughly on schedule for once a month releases (with some delays like Snowtroopers and Priority supplies occurring, but not necessarily pushing other releases back) -

(End of) July: Han and Commandos

August: Boba and Scout Troopers

September: 1.4 FD Laser cannon and Eweb

October: Palpatine and Royal Guard

November: Chewie and Rebel special forces (probably Wookiees)

December: ?

Given the pattern December should either have a neutral expansion or an expansion for both factions. I’m going to guess we’ll see new heavy units for both sides, since that’s the only original rank we won’t have at least 2 options for by that point.

Probably not this year. But until we do my spending on Legion is going to plateau and cease once I have two, 800 pt, armies.

I think everything you mentioned is pushed by a month. We get the priorities supplies in July, Han and Commandos in August, Boba and Scout in Sept, etc.

We still got Leia and Fleet in May, despite Snowtroopers getting pushed from end of April to early May. I think the same thing happened with Priority Supplies (the barricades that were announced at the same time came out end of June... similar to the Veers/Snowtroopers split).

But I’m just being optimistic. I could be wrong (and if I am... more time to paint and save up for the new expansions!)

4 and a half more months, give or take a few days...

I second this. i don't think they'll have everything that quick. Palp and Royal guards are probably late Dec releases, wookiees in January

Why do you think this is due? The Rebels are already up one commander on the Imperials...if anything, I would say Palpatine is Han's counterpart, as their third commander.

If you mean a higher point value than Luke, I'm sure it'll come at some point, but I see that as one of the differences between the factions: Rebels are generally lower point and more numerous.

This is something key as well, that I think people aren't coming to grips with: the factions are clearly designed to play differently.

Rebels are numerous, squishy, and mobile. Imperials are fewer, more powerful, more defensive, and slower. It also makes sense thematically. Nimble Rebels versus Heavily armed Imperials. Structured military versus unstructured terrorist cells. In some ways, defensive (Imps) versus Offensive (Rebels).

I like it, and I think over the next couple of years (especially once armies from other eras are released) Imps will be further defined. I think Imps are going to end up focused on few-yet-powerful DEFENSIVE units, whereas a similar force (like the First Order) will have few-yet-powerful OFFENSIVE units. Which is still thematic - Imps HOLD the Empire and the Rebels are trying to pull it away from them, whereas Resistance holds the Republic and First Order are trying to pull it away from them.

So yeah, we had some mirror units early to flesh out armies but I in no way think that we are going to see a like-for-like unit every time, and I think that this might be the first instance where this happens. Chewie + Wookies or Chewie + Ewoks will feel very different from Boba / Palp and Royal Guards. And that's okay!

Crewy operative and Wookie Warriors for specops.

Wookie Warriors may not have any screen time in the original trilogy, we know they were around from other material of that era. Honor Guard sort of make sense but they look way too similar to Fleet Troopers imo.

I really want Ewoks, dammit! A box with five figures for the basic unit, a specialist with a bow, a different specialist that's some kinda shamen. Ewoks before Wookies. I'm not painting a single Rebel in Endor colors until I see some freaking Ewoks.

And Ben Kenobi would make a great operative.

Please no! Anything but that!

My friend suggested Ewoks today for the rebels special ops. Like a ten mini unit with native cover 1 (cause they're small) nimble and something tricky. I think he might be right and I had to just groaaaaaaaaaan

I’d be down for two boxes. Maybe C-3PO will actually be the Operative and he can bring in the Ewoks and not have their rank count like Palp and the Royal Guards. ?

I would delightedly buy at least two boxes of Ewoks! I already have a big stone fortress in my terrain collection, so I could use GW LotR orcs as Sanyassan marauders and recreate the Battle for Endor. :P

Just want to add my agreement to this. Chewie and a crew of Ewoks was the first thing I thought of as two awesome expansions.

Balls out fun with both of them — big furry balls and little furry balls!

Yes, I still get chills from the smell of Brass-o and bootshine... spaypaint and e-tools, wd40 and pipecleaners... sigh

Only if you use "The Power" in your battle commentary every 5 minutes...

Well, going off the product numbers that have been announced, there could be four additional releases this year that have not yet been revealed.

The premium bases are product numbers SWL28 (trooper bases) and SWL29 (large bases). There was discussion when those were announced that there was a gap of six products, SWL22-27 that were unannounced. Two of those have now been filed, SWL22 (Emperor Palpatine) and SWL23 (Imperial Royal Guard). That still leaves four product numbers in the gap.

Room for 4? Chewbacca, Droids, Hoth Troopers, Ewoks? Maybe Imperial droids instead of Ewoks? Maybe another vehicle, like Luke's Landspeeder with weapon hard points?

I think Chewie as a Rebel Operative is good odds for one of the four.

As for the other three, that is a bit harder to guess. I think there will be another Rebel Special Forces, to give the Rebels a second option and to provide a "heavy" special forces for the Rebels like the Imperial Guard (ie a unit with 2 health per mini). Other than wookiees, not sure what that would be (as much as I want to see Hoth Troopers, not sure they are 2 health per mini troopers).

I think the last two could be either another heavy vehicle for each faction (to give both Rebels and Imperials a second option there) or another Operative for each faction (could be Lando for the Rebels, maybe another bounty hunter for the Imperials).
