Ascension - Magos

By Kuririn67, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hi there guys.
I have a question out to every player, GM and writer. Are your Tech-Priests / Magos even remotely close to a Fellowship of 30. Good, it’s possible but already unlikely. How about a Fellowship Rating of 50 - without the possibility to raise this attribute in the entire game?

Now there are dozens of great Peers and Good Reputation Talents available for the Magos in the new book Ascension. But a Magos end up with a maximum Fellowship rating of 45 when he rolls a 20 at the beginning and comes from a hive world ... he can't raise this stat, and gets the possibility to buy Good Reputation ... but he is absolutely unable to meet the prerequisites ... EVER!!!!

Usually a Magos rather reduces his Fellowship rating through his transition package, the Machinator Array or other things ...

Something is terribly wrong here!

Help or correction please!!!

From what I can remember from my (now defunct) P&P campaign, our techpriest used to have about 32 pts. or so in his fellowship stat by rank six. We never got any higher (for good or ill). So he'd have qualified for certain Peer talents at least which need FS 30.

Personally, I'd wait for an official 'Ascension Errata' to be spilled out by FFG, there sure as hell is one to come with all the .... discussions ... everywhere on these boards. They'll most likely make some fixes to the magos, lower the requirements or have his fellowship count in full (without any deductions from implants, etc.) for certain Mechanicus related influence talents. Just my guess though.

Hmm, I should become an Imperial Diviner ... your bugfix is in the latest pdf just released by FFG, lol.

On the topic of not meeting the prerequists for skills and talents based on Fel. i just found somthing intressting in the news feed Heed the higher call on page 16. in a black-box named Knowledge is power it says that Magoses can use Int inteed of Fel for Peer and Good reputation Talents.

Possibly. But he was more forthcoming. gran_risa.gif Another (unofficial) fix would be to just allow the tech-priest to use the explorator advances from RT. After all, they really are the same thing at the core of their beings.

Oh, and as to how impossible it is to get a tech-priest to 50+ fellowship. Hiver base 25; 2d10 roll of 20; Hero of the Inquisition general transition (suitable for ALL careers) is another 5; plus there is a Divination result that can give you another +3, for a potential 53 Fellowship. Not a single one of the Tech-Priests' talents in Core reduces their fellowship. Neither the Mechanitor Array; nor the Cybernetic elite advances, are required to play a tech-priest. They do make them more fun though.

Yes it's possible to get a fellowship score of 50 with a tech-priest. It is highly unlikely however. It's just as unlikely that the Magos ascended career was play-tested. This definitely needs fixing. Personally I don't like the fellowship requirement for Good Reputation at all. Reputations are earned. Access to them should be decided by roleplay and then cemented by the spending of experience points to gain the rules bonus.

Hopefully we'll see an errata for the book soon.

There already is one. It's been eratta'd for a while. Magos' can substitute Int for Fel for those Talants.

Now to figure out how my ImpPsy can do the same with regards to Good Reputation (Inquisition)...note...he is Void-Born and currently sitting on a Fel of 37.

Well... buy Fellowship advancements? If you're ascended, you can get up to +30 to it, which would make it possible even if you started play with a 20. So as long as you're not from Hive Volg, a Hive Mutant, a Darkholder,... you can get there.
