Yes Sheev and Ani did a buddy cop book and they both mixed it up. Sheev does like to be near the action. Commanding the separatist fleet while being a "prisoner", commanding the death star 2 while "defeating the rebel fleet", killing Jedi traitors and I am sure there is some clone wars cartoon stuff where he does more than just sit there complaining about the aluminum falcon awhile ordering lunch.

With that said, Sheev's kinda is a busy guy, taking over the galaxy and all, so he doesn't often lead troops into battle and at that point cost, it will be rare he does that for you too.

No I'd welcome it, but an AT-AT is a military ground vehicle, it fits the motif of Legion where military forces of the Star Wars universe are meeting on the field of battle.

Just think of it as an assassination/coup attempt instead of a regular battle, and it makes sense (particularly why he would "only" have a small number of units around him).

It's stupid to have palpatine running around dodging blaster bolts from han solo, but I'm not suprised he showed up.

The reason vader exists is do run around battlefields, in imperial assault it's pushing it, but here it's just ridiculus.

No, because you can still only issue 1 order with battle meditation before its exhausted. You dont simo assign orders, otherwise that card having a limit would be pointless to begin with not just with palp's card.

Once you issue 1 order and lose Battle Meditation, everyone else out of range is now ineligible units.

Just to clarify, Battle Meditation doesn't exhaust, it just textually says that that order is given to one unit. But essentially your answer is correct, any other unit farther from range 1-3 of Palpatine cannot be issued orders regardless of that command card (or range 1-4 if equipped with Commanding Presense).

I feel FFG is trying to balance Imperial players being "out-minied" by giving them major buffs that make them look scary and invincible. The point cost in my opinion is way to high, only because I like upgrades, but it makes sense. If you do run His Majesty, you need to throw the upgrades out the window and just run "naked" troops just to keep up. Would be an interesting fight. Or...we can wait until they increase the building point.

Also with his 3 pip command card, don't put on battle meditation, use commanding presence. Give him other force abilities that will help with buffs and damage. It's the same amount of points and you have a longer reach to more than just 1 unit.

I don't mind Palpatine being in the game. You could come up with an narrative for him being there pretty easily.

I don't want a AT-AT in the game for the same reason I wouldn't want a Super Star Destroyer in Armada, it's too big for the table.

Both expected and awesome! I’m guessing the unrevealed upgrade is either Esteemed Leader (for a combined guardian 3 on those guards) or, possibly, the range 4 commands upgrade. Improving Guardian seems like it has way more bang for the buck with Palpatine though.

Also equip bikes and scouts with long range comms to include them with that command card. It's a nice opening play or round 2 once the bikes disperse.

Got no problem at all with him bein in the game. More the merrier, more there is, less likely you are to have repeat battles.

Legion isnt a 'battle', its a small skirmish.

Rebels might be attacking an outpost hes inspecting etc, could get caught up in a plot etc.

So many people not playing because of the major characters involved in every battle. Its there game but no one around our store wants to play Darth Vader vs Luke in every battle...it gets old really quick.

For Palp to be on the battlefield (I haven't analysed the pictures), I'd make him a beast in action and allow 0 Activates (minimal Leadership skills while slaughtering minions), or no attacks and a great number of activations (Battle Meditation to coordinate the troops).

if they let him do both at the same time, then he's going to be way over powered.

I don't mind the idea of Palp in Legion (lots of reasons why he'd be on a battlefield - Mothma seemed glowing with the thought of the Emperor in a vulnerable position in Ep. VI), I think IA Skirmish is probably where he doesn't belong.

Keep in mind this game is a whopping 3.5 months old and FFG has made statements indicating they have at least 12 months worth of monthly releases planned. The game we are playing today is not the game we will be playing in 12 months.

Play the game, learn the rules, and when a new unit actually comes out, explore the new options available to you. Remember, it's a game...

Huh? I don’t get it. These people want to play general nobody versus admiral background guy instead? And that’s the reason they aren’t playing Legion? I guess that’s a thing... but it’s not my thing.

really, we're looking at resources (Time and Money), spread over interest (X-Wing, Armada, IA, Rebellion, and Legion).

In the great triumvirate of: hours - cash - product, somewhere in there we have Life that seems to get in the way (a job can take anything from 30hours per week plus - in AUS the average is 47hours per week).

People aren't playing Legion because they are spoilt for choice, no one is playing Runewars because it's crap. Two totally different reasons.

I like him. Force Lightning hits like the ATST primary weapon (2R2B2W) but with surge to Crit, Pierce 2 and Supressive. It's a knock out shot.

And then there's this little beauty of an action:

The issue is FFG is trying to get cards that aren't faction specific into both sides' hands as soon as possible of late to adress complaints about the "Autothrusters Expansion" in X-wing (or the (Xi7 Turbolasers+ Intel Officer expansion in Armada). That makes Improvised orders the logical choice. If they don't put it in there, I really hope they go with a new card entirely. 2 copies of wither of the existing command upgrades feels redundant, and combining that with a dubiously useful second copy of force choke would suck.

Huh. I keep seeing variations of this on these forums. Must be a 40k player thing- it's a different perspective from my X-wing/Armada background. Unfortunately, I don't see design space for true generic commanders; Going cheaper than Leia and Veers is tricky because you don't want to make something that outclasses them, but if you don't, you end up with an incredibly boring unit (and could still potentially recreate the flotilla problem from Armada). And... why would a non-force user be more expensive than Leia and Han?

Still, I wouldn't rule it out with Palpatine and Chewie rounding out the OT cast.

In terms of "getting old really quick" how would that change if the games were one generic commander versus another generic commander?

If you replaced Luke and Vader with a Generic Commander there would be no more variety for having done that.
