Bellator-class in wave 8?

By Atromix, in Star Wars: Armada

All the talk about "Something big" in wave 8 coming and everyone talking about an SSD has gotten me thinking. While I would love an armada SSD I just don't feel like it could reasonably fit into the game, even with Armada's sliding scale but I think a more mid sized dreadnought like the Bellator-class could work. I feel that that could be added into the game, creating a large enough ship, but still reasonable enough that I could be balanced, both size wise, and power wise.

Let me know what you think!

Also what do you reckon rebels will get? something big too, or maybe one or two smaller ships like the DP-20?

I'm sorry, but even FFG, with their poor marketing decisions and community engagement, is not going to add an obscure ship like the Bellator-Class Dreadnought while we are still waiting for one of the most iconic ships (arguably) in Star Wars, the Executor. Not to mention it is one of the last ships from the OT that has yet to be introduced into the game. If we ever get the Bellator, it would likely be after they have exhausted all ships from the movies, Rebels , and Empire at War .

Here is the Wave 8 speculation thread for your Rebels question.

It's not that I don't want an SSD, it's just that I see no feasible way of it being put in the game and I feel like the "something big" might be something else.

I think wave 9 will be the release of wave 8. And the Something Big will be that there will be another wave at all.

To be honest I was never good at guessing which things to come. But I don't care too much for any SUPERBIG ships. What we are missing is a cheap small based ship for the Empire and a medium based ship for the Alliance. And because I think that should be the next things to come, they will never arrive.

So next thing we'll get is a 7.ooo meter Bellator-class. And for rebels the ... Braha'tok-class gunship!
(A something and a BIG)

I can totally understand the concerns about balancing an SSD in this game. That doesn't mean I necessarily believe it impossible, just unlikely from the perspective we currently have for points. I still believe it's coming, but find myself leaning more in the direction of it being a campaign box style release. I have to agree with Admiral Calkins, the beast of choice for "something big" will almost certainly be the Executor before it's likely to be anything else. I do agree with Triangular that Imperials could really stand to have a low points small based ship to create a little more points parity between imperial and rebel lists, it's no secret or surprise that the tournament scene seems to be very Rebel heavy at the top.

Why would you want such a ship in the game? To one-shot Motti Isd-s? If such a ships even just looks funny at smaller ships, they explode...

At this point I'll be shocked no matter what we get. I'm usually the optimist but I'm wonder if there will even be a wave 8. I'm actually getting discouraged and not sure what might happen. The rumor is that they have been working on an SSD for years. I guess they just can't get it right... Of the rumor is true.

I used to follow that thread before it died four months ago.

But I have to say, I am staunchly opposed to an SSD outside of a special standalone campaign scenario.

SSDs would be wasted development time.

A huge ship would take a considerable amount of time to sculpt, quality check, and produce. It would also take a great deal of development time for all the special rules that it would require. And they'd likely have to make special rules for when and how it can be played in regards to tournaments, various objectives, CC, etc. Then they'd need to develop special game modes to actually utilize it.

After all that, roughly 1/10 of the Armada players would buy 1, and half of them would buy it just to get the special commander or upgrades cards that are exclusive to that single, overpriced, nearly impossible to play piece.

That time, energy, investment, etc would be much more productive and lucrative if it were spent on producing a new wave of ships for both factions....or writing an occasional article so we can all stop whining about being ignored.

The long lapse in announcements could be an indicator of SSD development. Also, it's been mentioned numerous times before, they don't have to make an SSD 2' long with Epic X-Wing like rules. They can, and hopefully will, make it a large ship with a model that's about 1.5 times as big as the ISD. They threw out all "realistic" scales when you compare the ISD to the CR90.

Lastly, it's been almost a year without any Armada release news. FFG better ******* be announcing something as glorious as an SSD!

I like that everyone is optimistic that a wave 8 is happening again. It usually fuels a lot of frustration and fire spitting later on so that'll be fun to read.

I hope a new wave comes out, I think you'll be disappointed if you expect it to be related to armada.
