Vizier and Ailerons

By j_man_04, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Vizier's ability doesn't seem to have the another friendly ship designation:

"After a friendly ship executes a 1-speed maneuver, if it is at Range 1 and did not overlap a ship, you may assign 1 of your focus or evade tokens to it."

So, when I reveal a maneuver with Vizier and perform my Ailerons maneuver, I get to add a focus or evade to the Reaper, yes?

'Your' is referring to Vizier himself. Its not just assigning a focus or evade token out of nowhere, its Vizier's ability allowing him to pass a token he already has to a friend a friendly ship that triggers his ability.

Sorry, no.

“Assign 1 of your focus or evade tokens to it.” You need to already have the token. Now if it said “that ship may take a free focus or evade action” then Vizier add a token.

Page Five of the FAQ covers this, as well:

Assigning a Token to Your Ship
When an ability instructs you to assign a token to your ship, this is different than performing a free action that provides the same token. For example, Kyle Katarn’s (pilot) ability allows you to “assign 1 of your focus tokens to another friendly ship at Range 1–3.” A ship that has a focus or evade token assigned to it can still perform that action during the round.

Ahhh, got it. Overlooked the your part. Still a decent ability, though, for the point cost.

So there's two parts here. First is getting an understanding on who gets the tokens. That's well addressed above.

Second is the fact that, yes, once you have a proper understanding of who gets what tokens, Adaptive or Advanced Aileron moves can trigger Vizier's ability . For example: When Pure Sabaac moves along side a Vizier, say the Aileron move into a 3-bank, he can grab one of Vizier's tokens along the way. Or if you Coordinate a Focus to Vizier before he moves when he has Recon Specialist, Vizier can hand out a token with both his Aileron Move and his normal 1-Hard.

i mean, you could have a coordinated evade token that you just keep giving to yourself over and over. Pretend it's really clever and see if your opponent gets confused.

Me: "Ok, my Aileron move is a one bank left, so I assign one of my focus tokens to myself. Then I reveal a hard one right, and assign one of my focus tokens to myself. Then I take the evade action."

If you had a card which triggered "when you are assigned a focus token", this might even do something.
