2.0 Rebels - The Land of Double Modded Shots?

By HanScottFirst, in X-Wing

Something stressed in discussion on a variety of levels is the lack of double mods in 2.0, and the importance of 1 action. Things like passive, full offensive mods (IE Dengar and Expertise) no longer exist.

But I think 2.0 Rebels will be able to line up a lot of double modded shots - especially with their theme of "team playing." Granted, it will take better planning and positioning to pull off, but it's definitely possible.

Focus Sharing: Kyle Katarn, Garven Dreis, Benthic Two Tubes, Esege Tuketu, Jake Farrel, etc.

Target Locks: Dutch Vander

Actions: Airen Cracken, ships with coordinate, and if the Sheathapide is docked with the Ghost, the Ghost can coordinate before it activates

Also, for the initial engagement, E-Wings can be double modded. (We don't need to talk about the E-Wings odd combo for linked actions . . .)

That's always been the underlying rebel thing; before the dark times, before the PWT.

The 'no double mods' thing is something I'm not really buying, I see plenty of ways of making it happen for all the factions.

I think Scum will give Rebels a run for their money in this regard. Scum Han might be the best gunner in the game, IMO at least.

I never saw the intent as 'no double mods', but 'work for your double mods'. It feels like the same idea as the bullseye arc stuff. They're fine with giving you a nice bonus, as long as you work for it. In the case of inter-ship synergies and such, the cost is 'keeping stuff in range and making sure triggers are met', as well as 'if you lose certain ships, you might break your good combo' (Like the tubes brothers). I think the issue they wanted to tackle was with ships that on their own were fully capable because of their upgrade suite.

If their intent is to avoid easily available double mods, I expect scum gunner Han will be quite expensive -- at least 10 points.

I was bored and curious, so here's a list of all the revealed pilots (ignoring upgrades for now) that can get a double modded shot on an initial joust by themselves. I'm counting a double mod as a way of getting 1 reroll and focus on everything, or 1 focus and reroll on everything, or one Blank->Hit and focus/reroll on everything (or better).

(Being able to reroll one dice and focus one isn't enough here).

Rebel (12)

Braylen S

All 4 E-wing pilots

Jake F

Luke S

Heff T

Saw G

Kanan J

Han S

Lando C

Scum (11)

Boba F

Koshka F

Krassis T

Palob G

Gen. Red

Inaldra

Guri

Assaj V

Lando C

Drea R

Kaato L

Imperial (12)

RAC

C. Jendon

Grand Inquisitor

7th Sister

Generic Inquisitor

Darth V

C. Jonus

C. Vessery

Howlrunner

Soontir F

M. Vermeil

Redline

Note: this totally not arbitrary metric clearly reveals a strong rebel bias.

Also, while I'm at it, here's all the pilots (still not including upgrades) that can allow fellow ships to get a double modded shot (generally through the coordinate action)

Rebel (18)

Kyle K

Esege T

Jake F

All 4 Sheathipede pilots

All 8 U-Wing pilots*

Lando C

Dutch V

Airen C

(*special mention to Bodhi R, Saw G and Benthic, who can use coordinate OR their ability to pass mods)

Scum (3)

All 3 Escape craft pilots

That's it...

Imperial (13)

All 4 Lambda pilots*

All 3 Decimator pilots

C. Jonus

Howlrunner

All 4 Reaper pilots

(*Special mention here to C. Jendon)

And Faction restricted upgrades:

Rebel (7)

Han S

Kanan J

Maul

Magva Y

Saw G

Ezra B

Luke S

Scum (1)

Lando C (on anything that can accumulate multiple green tokens)

Han S

I think that's it?..

Imperial (8)

A. Kallus

Darth V

D. Krennic

E. Palpatine

Grand Inquisitor

Grand Moff Tarkin

7th Sister

5th Brother

So, yeah, I guess rebels have the most ways of achieving double mods, but imps aren't too lacking in that department either. Let me know if you see anything I've missed.

Target Lock one turn, focus the next. Super easy and available since 1.0 Wave 0!

Benthic + Perceptive copilot

Garven Dreis

Dutch Vander

Just that and no other upgrades will get you three focus plus target locked attacks.

And there will be room for some astromechs, an ion turret, a few crew perhaps a Torpedo for the y wing.

Double mods coming from pilot synergies are usually good but not broken, if only because you break the synergy just by killing one of the ships.

Yeah but at that point you’re flying three aces that can’t dodge arcs. You’d better be able to get torpedoes; otherwise, your offensive output isn’t gonna be good enough, even with double mods. Given the choice between three ships with double mods and four ships with single mods, I’d take the four. Your offense is comparable, but your tankiness just shot way up.

Yes, rebels can readily get double modded attacks - but imperials can just as easily get double modded defence (stygium array, full throttle, lambda co-ordinate, Vader and Fel's pilot abilities off the top of my head).
