So... about that "Genius" 2.0 card.

By f0rbiddenc00kie, in X-Wing

ASTROMECH - LIMITED - SCUM
After you fully execute a maneuver, if you have not dropped or launched a device this round, you may drop 1 bomb.

So... what's up with this? I thought there wasn't supposed to be any more unavoidable damage in 2.0 anymore? Looks like this enables high PS bombing shenanigans again. Not sure if I'm missing something, so someone please fill me in. Do we have reason to be worried about this?

I don't really see how anyone can escape their own bombs. 1.0 Nym broke Genius. Before Scum Nym, no one took Genius because no one wanted to take self inflicted damage.

It is fully execute... so the moment you bump it’s disallowed, so there’s at least that.

That bomb that destroys obstacles could be avoided, not sure about any others.

We very can't let green dice have all the fun

Conner nets, away!

block the ship... boom avoided.

Also, Genius was literally never used in 1.0 before Nym and bomblets.... (and it did not have the after you fully execute negative part)

Good point! You can drop Conners and Proxes like 1.0 Action bombing. AND still have an action.

Guessing he won't be 0 points.

You could also drop a seismic, and if you aren't range 1 of the obstacle you select, no damage either.

Sorry, no. 2.0 Genius only works on devices with the "Bomb" keyword. Connor Nets are Mines in 2.0.

Yep. This is pretty much the reason behind the renaming of the "bomb" slot to "device". It allows them to make it possible to "drop" or "launch" things without calling them "bombs" now, which also allows them to restrict various abilities according to the type of device.

If we get a new version of Minefield Mapper in 2.0, for example, I would expect it to only work with "mines".

To be fair, they wouldn't make too much sense with bombs :D

With a little imagination it would make for a great firework show to get the first round started.

You have me there someone probably used it somewhere once.

I'm a little disappointed to see Genius back in the game given the issues it caused once Nym came out. Having said that, I don't think it'll be too bad. Bomblets aren't as abuseable now that you have to regenerate them and Genius may very well not be free like it was before.

Couple clarifications: First, a mine is a device. Second, Genius says if you haven’t dropped or launched yet, then after your maneuver you can drop a device. So you cannot move then launch, but you can move then drop a bomb or mine.

trajectory simulator is still a thing. does the fact genius says "you may drop 1 bomb" overrule trajectory simulator? otherwise theyre bringing back a terrible build in 2.0.....

Trajectory Sim says in the system phase so it won’t work with Genius.

There is still the possibility that the app just disallows certain combos. So e.g. a hypothetical 2.0 Nym with the 1.0 pilot ability could have an astromech slot, but the app lets you NOT put Genius in there. Or that a certain combo like Nym+Genius has a totally hilarious point cost, while Genius is really cheap say on a Y wing.

No, Genius 100% says 'drop 1 bomb' not '1 device'.

In 1.0, you could use Rebel Nym with Minefield Mapper to turn a single bomb into what was effectively a mine. I've considered building that, just for the look of disbelief on my opponent's face...

I didn't say it would be particularly _good_, just that it was possible! :D

You are correct. Thanks!

I used it a couple of times on suicide Proton Bomb Y-Wings. Not amazing, but a lot of fun if you can fly into a group and catch a couple of ships with a face up damage card early on. The Y-Wings generally have the health to tank through it.

So, I don't have the scum ships handy, but if most bombs do damage out to range one of the token, this would likely mean that a ship with “genius” would have to boost or barrel roll away. As engine upgrade doesn't add a boost anymore, as in requires you to already have the action, a y-wing has to do a barrel roll to avoid their own bomb. This will either be red or white if you have expert handling. So in both cases, it uses your action, and in the former adds a stress as well. This seems fine to me.

I admit I don't know the scurrg actions, but I imagine it is similar?
