Hey guys, just wanted to drop a picture of my Mel's SSD! I've had this on my bench for a long time cause its one of the older 3 peice models and had to be spliced. Ended up building a custom tongue and groove fitting out of balsa wood inside the superstructure so it would tightly bond and keep its shape, as i was having problems with the parts being slightly out of alignment.

It's been fun building it and figuring out how to paint it up. I'm still probably "in process" with it as i haven't actually painted the engines yet, but its close enough to finished to share here. It's an amazing looking ship (despite my paintjob, kudos mel!)

Insane! If we ever get an SSD I hope its as good as that!

In case anyone wanted a side by side. I know the angles are different, but it looks FAIRLY close as the ISD located in the same portion of the ship in both photos and looks about the same length. The FFG model looks "Thicker" but length seems very close.

I think Mel's looks shorter, but not a lot shorter. I doubt very much that the new one is much more than 75cm , to Mel's 65cm.

According to the article, the FFG one measures 24 inches, which are 61 cm (if the convertion I made in Google is accurate)

The article said "over 24 inches" but apparently the calculation has been done using the Large base size, to produce something like 24.1". So it's not a lot over.

The early previews make the base look wider than the Large base is. That was probably what was throwing off people's estimates to the high side.

For what it's worth - Mels SSD measures right around 25" so it's probably about an inch longer and looks to be a little slimmer near the point than the FFG model is going to be.
