HotAC and 2.0?

By Pewpewpew BOOM, in X-Wing

I’ve not played HotAC, but I am interested in trying it out. I am also very interested in jumping directly into 2.0.

Are there any plans to update it to 2.0 after release?

For those who have played, how difficult would it be to simply use HotAC as written but use 2.0 stuff?

The original creator has a new job as a game designer and doesn't have the time to really convert it himself.

With that said, there is an active Facebook community that has been working on HotAC (with the creator involved and voicing his opinions). There are already people working on a 2.0 conversion for it. So, expect to see new versions of it pop up. They might not be "official" HotAC, though.

Do you have a link to the facebook community?

Just search “heroes of the aturi cluster” on Facebook

So the updated unofficial XWM campaign will be a renegade from itself? Kewel!

Exactly. Kind of why I put "official" in quotes. It will be the non-official version of the non-official campaign format for X-wing. ?

There are already some plans for conversion to 2.0, but this will certainly take a while. I for one will not start converting things before I get a secure grasp on the new rule set, which means it's unlikely that work will get done before well into 2019.

I've posted some of my ideas/concerns.

No time to ‘splain, so let me sum up; 2.0 while sharing many similarities with 1.0 is going to need to work differently with Aturi. Less experience is needed, possibly redesigning the stress mechanic and of course AI has to take into account the new action economy - which is why Stress may need to change.

You mean more, not less, right?

I mean earning less for the pilots. While mileage may vary per group, I've found that pilots tend to max out fairly easily, then the challenge goes down drastically - becoming too easy.

If the same progression is applied to usung aturi with 2.0, players will have purchased everything they can before more than halfway through the campaign. What was called pilot skill used to go up to 9, but now, initiative, goes up to 6.

Earning less experience to spend on upgrades and more awards based on things that happen may be a better method.

What I mean is this; the old pilot sheet has a place to record kills, but that didn't do anything really. Historically, and in the star war universe too, an ace pilot has shot down 5 enemies. Keeping track of kills, instead of xp, to earn an award that can't be purchased may be fun. Perhaps for achieving Ace status you get to place an extra charge on any Equipped Talent.

It is a change in mindset with the new rules.

HotAC 2.0 could incorporate more player ships. Unlocking them could be more expensive. I used that to great effect in "Battlestar Pallas". But generally speaking you're right, of course.

My group just finished the regular hotac as rebels, and we're about to try Scum Pallas, but using a C-ROC. Any thoughts before we start?

Not really, because I'm no expert on Scum. But I guess you'd be fine.

Honestly, my thought process for Aturi style games is to seperate the pilot from the chassis.

This is to facilitate a more rebellion thematic feel where if you bring your x-wing back damaged, you havd to fly another ship. Or, a player is in control of the HWK in the rebel operative mission.

That way you may consider more defensive talents over offensive. As having to spend xp to repair hull on a ship makes it more rewarding to fly better.

I guess my ideas make for a different play style than what most want for aturi.

While we're throwing ideas around: a hangar to put purchased upgrades in, and restrictions and what can be flown each mission. So, for example, there's a mission that's "B-Wing only" because players fly a bomber wing against a Raider. So if the group has enough ordnance and cannons and systems in the hangar, good for them. If not, well...bad B-Wings. :)

Puts a bit more strategy into it.

I know I'm working (slowly) on an AI for Legion, so I can do a, from legends, wraith squadron style game.

I think legion AI may be easier than you think, especially for troopers. That challenge comes from the vehicles. Imperial AI correct?

Unless the slowly is because you are doing a lot otherwise, in which case, fair.

Or I'm missing things, in which case, fair.

I get sidetracked a lot actually. Being in school and having a 5 year old drains a lot of motivation to work dillegently on side projects such as said AI.

Yes, I was doing an Imperial AI.

Is there a thread on the legion forums / do you want to collab? I have some ideas, but want someone to look at them.

And getting sidetracked is fair. I realized after I posted that it seemed a lot meaner that intended.

I have not gotten around to posting anything I have done minimal as it may be.

I took no offense at all.
