That Yellow Fighter from Star Wars: Resistance

Actually, now that I am thinking of it, would love to see Crimson Skies return with an engine like XWM. Played it way back in the FASA days.

Never played the minis game, but I played the heck out of the old PC game.

Now I hate 2.0 because I’ll have to buy these Corsair ships for resistance... and I was going to just stick with rebels/empire.

Filoni strikes again (in a good way).

I personally like this fighter. Not really a design style we’ve seen in Star Wars before.

Bingo. Somebody watched the Wing Commander movie and thought it had good ship designs.... Which is a shame because the games actually did have good designs.

Well If I'm looking at it right I think it resembles the German Natter. Late war design to be used as an interceptor for allied bomber formations.

The Wing Commander film was probably the first of the really big Let-Down Video Game adaptation films. It was sooooooooo bad. Which is unforgivable because Wing Commander 3 was the benchmark in storytelling action games at the time. Heck, I'd go as far as to call Wing Commander 3 a landmark in video game history in terms of showing us what games were capable of achieving as a commercial product and art form.

The Wing Commander movie, on the other hand, was the first film I considered walking out of.

Not super loving the design so far... But I am looking forward to the anime and going ALLL in on Resistance as soon as the conversion kit drops.

Same here! A terrible movie based on one of my all time favorite video games. I grew up with Wing Commander!

I remember it being frustratingly awful, but it was a LONG time ago, too.

I kind of want to watch it now with a substance of choice and laugh through the whole thing.?

"Hey, we need a new starfighter design."

"Okay, what if, hear me out, we take an old WWII-era fighter and flip the cockpit to face the tail so it'll fly backwards - but forwards!"

"GENIUS!"

? why not, they did it with the X wing. Can't remember what model it was but they took a (think it was a Revell kit at the time) 1920's biplane, turned the fuselage round, gave it 4 wings and lo and behold an X wing.

Big regret was losing the book that showed all the modelling being done for the movie. One day I will remember what aircraft they used for the X wing. Someone here remember?

It's ironic that the WC games (at least the first few) had a better story than the actual movie. Talk about wasting good source material.

I had never seen the movie, so I borrowed the DVD from a friend that loved it.

I suggested to my then girlfriend (current wife) that we watch it, and she walked out about 30 minutes in and relentlessly mocked me for sitting through the whole thing.

"You realize you are watching Scooby Doo in space, right?"

I also grew up with Wing Commander (more so Privateer) and was disappointed that the film was nothing at all like the source material.

Not to be a pain.. but did this really need a thread? I had posted the picture in the Star Wars Resistance thread. I only say this because we just got rid of, what, 5 seperate Resitance threads?

We still have a resistance thread? I haven't seen it on the front page since before Krayts (almost) got moved into the offtopic section.

Yep, been on the first page since That picture was released.

It did drop a bit, because there had been zero information, but as soon as I found that picture I posted it in that thread.

Not to be a d***, but I've not even looked at the resistance thread. I imagined it to be pages and pages of conjecture, wish listing and behind the scenes things that don't really interest me.

On the other hand, I'm always up for seeing a pic of a new ship, so this thread clickbaited me in.

So from my point of view, I'm happy with the separation.

No offence meant.

Pretty much the same.

I wasn’t even aware there WAS a resistance discussion thread until a couple days ago.

Yeah, I think it looks pretty neat but these are subjective opinions.

To me, it feels less like a proper starfighter and more like a hot-rod intended for the outer space version of pod-racing. Maybe we'll even see Han because of that.

I think this is probably it. Didn't I hear somewhere that the show revolves around a speeder racing crew and is set in the Sequel trilogy time? This ship is probably a racer of some kind. Could be weaponized, but could just be for speed.

i don't remember speeder racing specifically, just Racing. it might be something like Air Racing, with customized fighters or even custom built aircraft flying a track. we know such races exist in the GFFA because they were part of the story Scorched, where one such race was the focus of the story, with Han Solo flying a custom A-wing against career racers (including the POV character) in races on (IIRC) Corellia.

and even if the racers aren't combat types to start, that won't prevent them from becoming such.. the air races of the 20's and 30's saw the start of a lot of famous fighter aircraft, like the ME 109, and much of the design work for those fighters went on to inform the WW2 fighter designs.

A lot of the post WWII air races use decommissioned WWII warbirds, too - which is something I can imagine happening in a post-Jakku galaxy, too.

Decomissioned Imperial and Rebel fighters were probably going for a song.

i could see the Empire putting a lot of restrictions on racing too during their reign.. Clone Wars ships would have been common on the surplus market at the time, and you can bet they'd have been worried of Rebels using racing groups as cover for getting their hands on fighters.

honestly i kinda wish that we'd seen the Rebels in SW:Rebels using more clone war ships than just the Y-wings and a handful of shuttles and the one frigate..

Yeah, crazy that we didn't even see Z95s. It would have been cool if Ahsoka still had her jedi fighter in storage somewhere but she probably tossed it after Order 66.

She left the order prior to Order 66, so it was probably given to another Jedi or left at the Jedi temple of Coruscant and destroyed. Either way, she wouldn't have had access to it since she no longer belonged to the order. Besides, I don't think ANYONE who wasn't Vader wanted to be caught flying around in a "traitorous" Jedi vehicle.
