I kinda hate Armada and here's why

By Shadow345, in Star Wars: Armada

And it's not because the game is bad.

It's because it just won't take off but even worse it just won't die either.

There's always just enough life in the game to make me think it's worth looking forward to games. Then many weeks nothing happens and I get disappointed.

But if it would just die off I could put it away and just forget about it.

Anyone else feel this way?

No. Aparrently noone in the last four minutes at least...

Not for me, we've put a lot of effort into building our Armada scene locally so I'm often able to get a couple of games of Armada a week. We've usually got several people messaging our group chat arranging games over the course of any given week. It takes some commitment and effort to get a community formed like this, but it's totally worth it! Sounds to me like your complaint isn't with Armada, it's with your local gaming scene.

I hate this game because I don't get to play enough!

Nope, I’m usually able to get a game in every week. I can see how you’d feel that way though.

Obviously this is just one example but I've found a buddy at my FLGS and we've been playing once a week almost every week since the beginning of the year and have actually roped in a couple of other guys as well (we even did a CC campaign). Maybe I've just been lucky that there were people interested in it where I am?

How could you ever think about forgetting this awesome game? even if we get news in the future that it won't be continued (hope not) it's in my opinion one of the best games ever, really fun to play, cool models and we have plenty of options for fleet building right now.

In my mind it will never die, it's immortal

Do you guys usually play at your local store, or are you more likely to play at home?

My store is 20 minutes away, so I find it rather inconvenient to drive 40 minutes for an hour and half of game time.

Wow it takes you only an hour and a half for a game? My drive is about 25 min one way and the games usually last about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs.

Well, it depended how many squadrons are on the board. They add an extra 30+ minutes for sure.

My main competitive list is squadronless, at Regionals I finished 2 of my 3 games with 45-60 minutes still on the clock. Final game took a lot longer, but we were battling for first place and he had Rieekan Aceholes. And a few of my Euros games were finished up in the same type of time.

Squads? Ain't nobody got time for that!

We play quicker here WITH squadrons...

7+ ships on a side? So much more analysis paralysis than just moving some squads around..

I think I played four games in the last seven days, and I'm looking forward to attending a store champ this weekend. I also turned down two games tonight. "Lack of activity" has not been an Armada issue for me for a while.

Nobody to play against?

It's a friendly place to get in games, make friends in an international meta community, and it's for free.

Nope, like many other people, my constraint on playing more is time.

However, now that it's summer and I'm off from my teaching job (still have other job, 'cus life costs money, and teaching don't pay in the USA), I have a little more free time. I have a store championship to go to tomorrow (hosted by @shmitty ), another one next week in Salem (OR), and two weeks after that I'm hosting my store championship. One week after my store championship @Admiral Theia is hosting hers. If I'm not completely Armada'd out at that point, I can decide if I'm going to drive 3 hours up to Bremerton, WA.

Yeah, Armada is so dead.

I hope I didn't pour too much salt in too many wounds, but the Armada forum is a salty place, so people should'a known better than to come here if they were sensitive to that sort of thing.

I am still getting games in my area at least once a week.

I also think getting people into your flgs to see it in action is a key to enticing people to play.

The 1000 point game we tried definitely got some looks of interest.

I can see where he is coming from, I think I have had one game in the last four months.

So. I haven't played a game in well over a year. I haven't actually played all that much at all, but that's mostly because I don't drive and it's a pain to get into the city on my schedule, so I have no one to blame but myself. I also don't really do strangers that well.

That being said, can we knock it off with the clickbate titles? I already have a Facebook account.

I've gotten our store up to a consistent four games going every Monday night, spiking upwards of seven or eight simultaneous games. It's a hard game to get folks into, what with all the intimidating entry factors and all. But we got a solid 20 guys on the group I think. No gals yet, got to work on that. They're out their, I've seent it.

I witnessed an interesting phenomenon last night. A friend and I were playing one of our Corellian Conflict games last night, and a couple of X wing guys were playing the store’s demo copy of the Armada base set “next door”. They said they’d been interested for a while, and the X wing second edition upgrade cost was making them consider pulling the trigger. Seeing a 500 point fight and learning that pretty much any expansion was worth getting for the ship itself was attractive to them. For folks that are willing to heavily invest in something fun, Armada doesn’t take much to sell.

A Rebel general shares this one simple trick to never letting your ships or squadrons die. Imperials hate him!

We have had 2 tournaments in the past 3 weeks, but I’ve had other things that prevented me from playing.

We played four Star Wars miniatures games to see which is the best. You’ll never believe which one came out on top!

Nope, I love Armada because it doesn't take painting time from my multitude of other games crying for my attention. I'm hoping to eventually get one of everything, and in about 6-7 years I can hopefully get my son interested.
