Targeting Scrambler VS Inquisitor

By NiimaOutpost, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello, I had a questions in regards a ship fitted with a Targeting Scrambler,it applied the condition to the Inquisitor. Now the Inquisitors ship was physically range 3, but classes his attack as range 1, & The scrambled condition just states "when attacking a ship at range 1 that is equipped with the "Targeting Scrambler" upgrade you cannot modify your attack dice. Now reading the FAQ for the inquisitor, things like Jax and Bobba state a ship has to be at range 1, but the scrambler specifically states "attacking a ship at range 1" i can see both sides, of the argument, and was just looking for a clear cut answer/clarification I know its low on the radar as first edition is over in a few months, but thanks all.

Inquisitor is a bit of a zombie: both alive and dead at the same time. Both at Range 1 and Range 3 at the same time. In all cases, it works out in the Inquisitor's favor.

  • Per the FAQ: The Inquisitor at Actual-Range-3 prevents a defender from using Autothrusters.
  • Also per the FAQ: The Inquisitor not at Actual-Range-1 does not trigger Fenn Rau (scum) or the Concord Dawn Protector title, despite the attack "counting as" being at Range 1.

These things are kind of contradictory, but they're both in the FAQ, so those are the rules. As such, I'd say that Targeting Scrambler doesn't prevent the Inquisitor from modifying his dice, unless he's at Actual-Range-1.

Concur. Both that his ruling is messy and that this is how precedent suggests it would be handled

AFAIK anything that refers to the range of a ship or to the range of a ship in arc (rather than to the range of the attack itself, which is either never or rarely mentioned) cares about the actual range, not the attack range. The only exception is the Inquisitor vs. Autothrusters ruling, which only holds because the FAQ says so and which contradicts other parts of the FAQ.

So, yes. I also concur.

Gold thanks guys.
