Imperial builds input please

By Shraken, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've not played all of these lists yet and but I'm looking for SC feedback. Trying to maintain a healthy balance of fun and competitiveness.

"Whisper" — TIE Phantom 32
Veteran Instincts 1
Collision Detector 0
Director Krennic 5
Advanced Cloaking Device 4
Ship Total: 42

Rho Squadron Veteran — Alpha-class Star Wing 21
Deadeye 1
Extra Munitions 2
Harpoon Missiles 4
Long-Range Scanners 0
Ship Total: 28

Extra Munitions 2
Harpoon Missiles 4

I like Rhoboats because of deadeye as it gives me target flexibility in conjunction with LRS.
Extra munis is because I have had difficulty disengaging with slams and then reloading in the past and it just takes them out of it for too long.
Title for OS2 might be a better option rather than EM.
Protomolecule Whisper because I think it would be fun, Echo is a possibility which frees up another 2 points for the boaters.
I've never flown a Phantom :D (Yes I know I can drop EM on both and do PTL AS Kylo, please don't tempt me)

This I have flown, and I enjoyed the interaction of jam and Vaders Juke a lot.

Darth Vader — TIE Advanced 29
Juke 2
Advanced Targeting Computer 1
Engine Upgrade 4
TIE/x1 0
Ship Total: 36

Scarif Base Pilot — TIE Reaper 22
ISB Slicer 2
Director Krennic 5
Lightweight Frame 2
Advanced Ailerons 0
Ship Total: 31

Leaves me 33 point wingman. I did QD with FCS/LWF but I am rarely pleased with how the SF flies, I kind of hate it.
Naked Ryad/Vessery/Maarek (x7)
Inqi leaves 2pt bid
A Rho boat of some configuration, probably poon.

This next one is my least likely because of having to strip things down to make it fit.

Darth Vader — TIE Advanced 29
Juke 2
Advanced Targeting Computer 1
Twin Ion Engine Mk. II 1
TIE/x1 0
Ship Total: 33

Scarif Base Pilot — TIE Reaper 22
ISB Slicer 2
Inspiring Recruit 1
Lightweight Frame 2
Advanced Ailerons 0
Ship Total: 27

"Echo" — TIE Phantom 30
Veteran Instincts 1
Collision Detector 0
Director Krennic 5
Advanced Cloaking Device 4
Ship Total: 40

Prototype would most likely go on Vader.
Is it worth it to drop TIE MK2, LWF and Recruit for engine upgrade on the Vader?

You could run Carnor Jax. I believe his ability paired with Jam on the field could cause a lot of problems for your opponent. I don't think that Carnor can actually prevent your opponent from clearing Jam tokens (since focus or evade tokens are "removed", not "spent") but Carnor ends up being extremely disruptive to pretty much anything. His presence near another ship in conjunction with Jam could hurt an opponent's damage output or prevention pretty seriously.

The downside is that he is pretty darned hard to fly. You want him Range 1 of at least one enemy ship to make his ability count. You have to have a pretty heavy pair and be ready to lose him at a moment's notice.

I'd build him like this:

Carnor Jax (26) [32] Soontir Fel (27) [33]

  • Push the Limit (3)
  • Autothrusters (2)
  • TIE mk. II (1)

I've gotten a lot of mileage out of those green 3-banks on Interceptors, it helps them get out of dodge when you need to.

You could also run Soontir with the same loadout so that Vader has another PS 9 buddy. Throw the Optimized Prototype on him instead of Vader so that Soontir can take the inevitable crit that slips through. The Interceptor dial won't leave you disappointed like the /sf.

I recommend Carnor if you want to get some games in with him before he doesn't exist in 2.0. Soontir should wingman well for Vader and both should be a great candidate for the Optimized Prototype.

Carnor isn't a bad option but I feel he may be a little redundant because of the Jam but I see where the strength lies in having them Jammed where they can't get rid of it.
The base Silencer is actually an option with FCS and optics. Sure the PS sucks but that dial is so nice and it's not just paper thin.

Protomolecule Whisper

This sounds awesome!

Assuming spellcheck from Prototype :D

I immediately fell in love with Krennic on Whisper. Gamechanger for him.

Tried some last night.
Vynder, too expensive and he can't perform well for his cost.
Whisper wasn't terrible but having to strip down Vader hurt and Prototype just makes you live through one more round of TLT.

Looking at a healthy middle between your lists, I would suggest this:

Scarif Base Pilot

Title

Multi-Spectral Camo

Krennic

ISB Slicer

Vader

VI

Title

ATC

Whisper

VI

FCS

ACD

You could condition either Vader or Whisper. Whisper functions very normally, the Reaper always Jams, can be tough to kill thanks to MSC, and gets a TL for offense after the prototype shoots. Vader also functions very typically.

I like this because it has a bit of everything, no one is easy to kill, everyone hits hard, and target priority is f(_)cked.

For Gunboats, I like Karsabi with XG-1, Mangler Cannon, Wired and Linked Battery.

For Whisper, I'd use the freed up system slot for either Advanced Sensors or Sensor Jammer. Probably the latter if there's a lot of TLT about. That second shot is usually unmodified so you've a decent chance of evading it, and if you can swap one damage on Whisper for five dice back, you're more likely to win the damage race.

Having a TLT hunter like Carnor, Soontir, or the Inquisitor could really help your list then. While they'll fold like a cheap tent against good bombers, they'll tear apart TLT lists. About the only time I've lost any of them against TLT lists from full health is when facing Quad TLT and all ships can get a shot off. Additionally, Carnor likes being within range 1, even shooting unmodified, then you can let the other ships in your list wreck whoever he's close to.

I still think Carnor Jax with a Jam Reaper will be really painful.

I did try the Inquisitor and he wasn't bad but I'm not sure I used him properly. He didn't pull his weight in dmg output.
Next I will try Whisper with crackshot Vader and reaper with rebel captive and slicer.

I want to try VI Vermiel, Carnor and Echo so they are all PS8 but it's hard to fit.
