I’ve been away for some time, but there’s a store championship on Saturday, and now that my beloved X-Wing is finally buffed, I figured I’d make a showing. Problem is, I have no idea about the state of the meta, or what’s worth flying. My hunch is it’s still bombs and damage mitigation, but what’s popular right now, and what would be your recommendation to face it. I’m really debating 2 T-65s and a T-70 to help with turrets or a 4 ship list with 3 T-65s and a blocker. Then again maybe I should try out an E-Wing or more T-70s... so many ships so little time. Anyway, what’s the last wave of 1.0 looking like?
Just coming back for first tournament
Reapers are the scourge of aces right now. Jamming is ripping a lot of efficiency off of old Dash lovers and Mirandas.
That's not to say you won't still see those.
5x is good, and so is 5U, if you're already used to competition using low ps blocking swarms (I said competing, not general local play).
If you want something a little more well-rounded (my recommendation), then shoot for the middle.
2x+Poe.
2x+Luke&Wedge (it fits... With R2D2 as well)
2x + name your Ace.
T70s besides Poe haven't been the most competitive lately, in my experience. Not bad, just not enough about okay to put up with the most efficient dogs out there. Might as well go with an Auzituck if you're not using affordable '65s.
2 X + Poe was my first thought. I was debating a Wes and Wedge with Poe. Problem is that limits me to PS 8 Poe, but based on this that might be ok. Sadly I can’t do 4 t-65s. I’ve always been playing on a budget, so I’m not buying a second Saw’s Renegades so my limit is 3 T-65s. Idk if ordinance is an issue with the fall of the jump, so disabled Wes might be invalid. Also is it Predator Wedge time? I was thinking PTL with FAA, but predator might be more worth it now it sounds like.
What about a Fen Rau support ship?
Wedge Wes Defender Hobbie and a blocker was another idea... idk

If that's your style, and you know how to work it, then cool.

Hobbie is fine as a "defender", but you could just throw a CAZealot on the table with selflessness for free and have a mini Biggs doing more for your aces.

Peed. Wedge is fine, if you think he'll survive long enough for it to be worth it. That would mean a shield tank like Lhowwrick, or something to draw fire off of him to ensure longer survival.
Personally, I think VI wedge, being cheaper and more straightforward, is a way better choice.
Wedge is a wild card I admit. I’ve had high success with him in casual play. Indeed Wes, Wedge, and somebody is my typical setup. A cavern zealot Biggs is not a bad idea, in fact I thought of that configuration with Wedge Wes and a headhunter. Idk there’s a lot of good options these days it seems like. Last time I had time to hit a table it was all jumpmasters.

3 T-65s and a blocker you say? Saw this in action last weekend at a local SC. It did pretty well...
Rexxx, or Rex with 3 X's
Wedge Antilles with Adaptability, Renegade Refit, FAA, Servomotor S-Foils & Integrated Astromech - 28 points
Luke Skywalker with VI, Renegade Refit, FAA, Servomotor S-Foils & Integrated Astromech - 28 points
Wes Janson with VI, Renegade Refit, R3-A2, Servomotor S-Foils & Integrated Astromech - 30 points
Captain Rex - 14 points
Total - 100
All X-Wings at PS10 plus shenanigans from everybody's favorite clone trooper.
Oooh that might be better than my build with Hobbie. I was doing something very similar to that. I also thought of an XXU build but I’m not sure if Opprotunist Saw is worth it.

Also that list is 98 thanks to the renegade refit cost reductuon.

Check your builder. It may not be adding the 2 Veteran Instincts on Luke and Wes to the total. The list is 100 points...
Wedge (29), RR (-2), FAA (1) = 28
Luke (28), RR (-2), VI (1), FAA (1) = 28
Wes (29), RR (-2), VI (1), R3-A2 (2) = 30
86 + 14 (Rex) = 100

EPTs get a -1 as well.

*reads text on Renegade Refit*
Well....****. Note to self....read the whole card.
So....add Sabine's Masterpiece, Courier Droid and a 1 point iillcit of your choice to Rex.
Check this thread. Especially the last post.

Unfortunately, all but one of those lists require a second Saw's Renegades, something the OP said he didn't want to buy.
Yeah I don’t play tournament I enough and in friendly games I allow a lot of proxying, so nobody minds if I’m running an extra S-Foil Refitted X-Wing. Here are some lists I’ve been fooling around with in my head:
Saw’s Rogues: I like the synergy but I don’t trust the durability:
I’ve also been throwing this around: Ashoka and the Rogues:
This list is a bit more durable effectively, but has a ton less firepower.
For Poe + 2X, I worry that the list is a little light on body. If I was sticking with it, I'd go with one of two routes.
- One is with Hobbie and Targeting Astromech, which is wicked sweet for the K-Turns and T-Rolls. That'd leave a lot of points for Wedge: 5 (6, counting the Refit Elite reduction) points for Droid and Elite Upgrade. That could also be Targeting Astromech, so Wedge would have strong offensive mods at all times.
- The other is Kullbee Sperado. Taking VI or Intensity and BB-8 looks pretty solid. This doesn't leave as many points for Wedge, but Flight Assist + Predator fits.
Alternately, Poe + 3X fits. Three Rookiees with one point droids and a cheaper Poe would work. PS 8 Poe with a 0-Point Elite upgrade would fit with a R2-D2/AdvO/Black1/AutoT build. A PS 9 Regen Poe with VI could fit, too, if you went to only two Rookiee Pilots and used AP-5 (R2 Astromech + Inspiring Recruit) as the 4th ship.
How big are TLTs right now? When I was thinking Poe, that was really his main goal, survive TLT games and be a late game menace

Sorry, I'm always proxying, didn't think about that.

You’re fine. I’ve done it to myself because I’ve been playing with the new X-Wings since I could read the cards.
It's really weird. I always play Armada with the actual cards, even the most casual game. I never use the cards for X-Wing, not even for tournaments, always bringing prinouts and using them for reference.
Is that legal???? **** I could easily run 4 if that’s acceptable?

Normally, for official FFG events such as store championships, proxying is not allowed.
